Vitals Ester-C is considered as the third generation vitamin C behind ascorbic acid and the mineral ascorbates. As soon as vitamin C is absorbed in the body, it is metabolised into metabolites, of which the most important one is threonic acid. These metabolites improve upon the absorption and use of vitamin C in the body. Furthermore threonic acid is capable of mobilising previously absorbed vitamin C and make them available for metabolic processes.
Ester-C consists of a complex of calcium ascorbate with calcium-bound natural metabolites of vitamin C. Ester-C is absorbed considerably faster than regular ascorbic acid, which results in a higher circulating vitamin C-level in the blood, with less excretion of oxalate in the urine and longer retention by the body without gastric discomfort or dental decay. The bioflavonoids in Ester-are synergists of vitamin C; they improve the absorption of vitamn C, prevent oxidation of vitamin C and assist vitamin C with strengthening the capillaries and blood vessels.
A human being is not able to synthesize vitamin C and is fully dependent on nutrition to gt the required daily dose. Vitamin C is water-soluble and is present in the entire body with the highest levels in the adrenals and pituitary gland. However, the highest total amount of vitamin C is found in the liver and skeletal muscles, because these comprise the largest volume in comparison to the rest of the body.
Vitamin C is an essential for the synthesis of collagen and other collagenous molecules. This is why vitamin C can assist in keeping arteries healthy and flexible. All tissues that give our body structure and strenght like the joints, tendons, skin, muscles (as well as the heart muscle), bones and collagen are dependent on the synthesizing capacity of vitamin C, especially during recovery periods (e.g. sleep).
Furthermore vitamin C is an important co-factor for the synthesis of neurotransmitters, steroid hormones, carnitine, the metabolization of cholesterol into bile acids, as well as for the deconstruction of tyrosine and the mineral metabolism.
Vitamin C is a co-enzyme for many other enzymes in biological processes. The antioxidant function of vitamin C is necessary for the maintenance of healthy cells and tissues. Vitamin C has a positive influence on the cardiovascular function.
Vitamin C also helps eliminates heavy metals like mercury, lead, cadmium and nickel. Inside the digestive tract, vitamin C prevents the metabolisation of nitrate and nitrites into nitrosamines.
Vitamin C also plays an important role in the synthesis of prostaglandines and as such supports the immune system.
Based on the countless functions of vitamin C, the uses of a supplement are also wide-spread.
