Elemental Zinc & Copper
Elemental Zinc & Copper is based on ‘concentrated mineral drops’ (CMD), a special sea water concentrate from the Great Salt Lake with the entire spectrum of minerals and trace elements (devoid of nearly all sodium, augmented here with extra zinc as zinc sulphate as well as copper gluconate) . This product is made by means of a traditional and natural concentration process in the sun.
The minerals and trace elements in Elemental Zinc and Copper are available in dissolved and ionic form as electrolytes. They are not tied with other elements but available in separate electrically charged particles, which is exactly how they are present in the body. Which is why minerals in ionic form are more easily absorbed.
Zinc and copper in relation to health
Zinc is present in all tissues of the body, but most of all inside the cell. Zinc is used for more than 300 enzymatic processes. Furthermore, zinc is an important structural component of proteins and cell membranes. Zinc is therefore an amazingly important mineral, among which cell replication and the hormonal balance.
Furthermore zinc is also imoportant for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein as well as DNA.
Zinc influences the immune system by supporting the creation of T-cells, supporting the production of cytokines as well as supporting the healthy function of natural killer cells.
Zinc protects cells against oxydative damage, among which because it plays an important role in how the antioxidant enzymes katalase and super oxide dismutase (SOD) function.
Zinc also takes care of a healthy acid-base balance. Zinc is a co-factor for the enzyme carboanhydrase, that catalyzes the conversion of carbon dioxide into bicarbonate (and vice versa). Bicarbonate is one of the most important buffers that help keep the acidity of the blood and other extracellular fluids as constant as possible.
Copper is a component of various enzymes and plays a role in the acitivity of certain enzymes that are involved in the release of energy from fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
Copper also contributes to a healthy condition of the connective tissue in the skin, cartilage and blood vessels, by being involved in the production of elastin and collagen, the components of connective tissue.
Zinc and copper are antagonists. A high intake of zinc (50mg or more per day) for a long time (longer than a month) can lead to a low copper status. For that reason, zinc and copper are combined in this product
