Power Supplements Vega Booster 180 v-capsules with 5 essential 'meaty' micronutrients for vegans
Vegetarian food: often more energy, but sometimes less!
There are people who notice that they become more energetic when they switch to a vegan or vegetarian diet. Many explanations are possible for this. For example, you eat more fruit and vegetables and more complete sources of carbohydrates (starch). This means that the food contains plenty of vitamins, minerals and responsible carbohydrates, which contributes to a good energy level.
Sometimes an increase in energy can be attributed to ceasing to use of dairy products. In such a case, a mild dairy allergy or hypersensitivity plays a role. An allergy or hypersensitivity to a food can be a major 'energy leak'.
In any case, an increase in your energy level is a good support for maintaining a vegetarian diet. But what if you get less energy when switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet?
There are people who sometimes temporarily eat meat again and notice that they get more energy. They feel stronger. Is this imagination or does meat contain strengthening nutrients that are not found in vegetarian food?
Four vegan carni-nutrients
Carni-nutrients are nutrients that occur almost exclusively in meat ('carnis' is Latin for meat). These substances are essential for our functioning, but do not necessarily have to be present in the diet. The human body also produces these substances itself.
It mainly concerns the following 4 substances:
- Creatine
- Carnitine
- Beta-alanine
- Taurine
As mentioned, the body can produce these 4 substances. However, there is a catch. It has been established that vegetarians and especially vegans have lower levels of carni-nutrients in their bodies compared to people who eat meat. The reason for this is that the human body is limited in the production of carni-nutrients. Vega Booster offers a solution here. Two capsules a day provides vegan sourced carni-nutrients at the level of an omnivorous diet.
Carni-nutrients as a dietary supplement
For decades people have been able to reproduce carni-nutrients. This is done through ingenious process technology that has become increasingly sophisticated. The processes are now completely vegan.
A lot of research has been done into the use of the reconstructed carni-nutrients as a dietary supplement in athletes, healthy people and not-so-healthy people. The results are sometimes impressive.
- Creatine for high-intensity exercise
Creatine is a natural body substance that occurs mainly in the muscles and in the brain. Creatine can be seen as a power battery that can release a lot of energy in a short time. It is therefore a popular supplement among athletes. But people over 55 who use creatine, for example, can also increase the effect of their strength training.
Until now, vegetarians and vegans have been a forgotten group when it comes to supplementing with creatine. With just 1 gram per day, the dose in two capsules of Vega Booster, you have the same intake of creatine as an ardent carnivore. This way you supplement muscle cells and possibly also brain cells with this special 'power booster'.
You can and should take more. For example, if you take 3 grams of creatine (9 capsules of Vega Booster), this helps when you perform physical exertion of high intensity in short succession. What is “high-intensity exercise”? That differs per person. For one person that is sprinting or lifting weights, but for another it can be a daily activity such as climbing stairs or catching a departing train.
Anyway, you can notice the effect of creatine very soon.
- Carnitine
The name carnitine immediately makes it clear that this is a carni-nutrient. Yet this substance also occurs in plant foods. Beans contain small amounts of carnitine. A medium avocado provides 2 milligrams and 100 grams of brown bread contains 0.4 mg of carnitine.
However, these amounts are meager compared to the carnitine content in meat. One hundred grams of beef, for example, contains about 100 mg of carnitine. It is therefore not surprising that an omnivore's diet contains more than ten times more carnitine than a vegan's diet. A daily dose of 2 capsules of Vega Booster contains 170 mg carnitine.
Just like creatine, carnitine is produced by the human body. Production is low. Someone weighing 70 kg produces about 13 mg of carnitine per day. A diet with meat can contain a multiple of these. However, not all carnitine is absorbed from the diet. Despite the limited intake, the diet of an omnivore provides on average 75% of the carnitine present in the body. The body uses carnitine, among other things, for energy production from fats.
Due to the minimal amount of carnitine in the diet of vegans and lacto-ovo vegetarians, they have a lower carnitine status than omnivores. This is more important in children, which is probably related to the growth of the body.
- Taurine
Taurine is a prominent carni-nutrient found in significant amounts in meat, fish and poultry. The diet of vegetarians and vegans contains only very small amounts of taurine.
Taurine enjoys some fame as one of the main ingredients in many energy drinks. It has many functions in the body, but taurine is particularly common in tissues with the greatest energy demand, such as 'dark' muscle tissue. The best example of this is the heart. As an animal species has a higher heart rate and the heart requires more energy, the taurine content in the heart muscle is higher.
Small children cannot yet produce enough taurine. For them, taurine is an essential nutrient. Adults are capable of producing taurine. This production varies from person to person. It has been established that vegetarians have less taurine in their blood than omnivores.
- Beta-alanine
To clarify why beta-alanine is included in Vega Booster, first an explanation about carnosine. This substance is found in muscle and brain tissue. During intensive exercise, carnosine reduces the rate at which muscles acidify. As a result, the effort can be sustained for longer.
In the body, carnosine is made by combining the substances beta-alanine and histidine. If someone gets more beta-alanine through the diet, the carnosine content in the muscles is increased. This increase probably also takes place in the brain, but that is difficult to measure.
In humans, beta-alanine is the limiting factor for carnosine production in the body. The body's own production of beta-alanine is limited, but this carni-nutrient can also be absorbed from food.
Unfortunately, beta-alanine does not occur in plant foods. It is therefore not surprising that a lower muscle content of carnosine has been measured in vegetarians compared to omnivores. Beta-alanine is found in meat, poultry and fish as part of carnosine and the related anserine. White meat contains more carnosine than red meat.
Chicken fillet contains about 150 mg of beta-alanine per 100 grams. Vega Booster contains 250 mg beta-alanine per daily dose of three capsules. Produced in a vegan way, of course.
- Vitamin B12
It is well known that vitamin B12 is a component of meat, which is virtually absent in plant foods. Vitamin B12 is important for energy supply on many levels. It contributes to the reduction of fatigue (and tiredness). For vegetarians, but especially for vegans, supplementing with a modest amount of vitamin B12 is a wise choice.
Many B12 supplements contain a milligram (1000 micrograms) or more of vitamin B12 per pill. For vitamin B12 this amounts to no less than 400 times the daily required amount (40,000%). In other words: the annual amount of this vitamin in one day.
As far as we know, so much B12 is not harmful. It is even life-saving in people who have a disorder of vitamin B12 absorption. This is because regardless of the absorption disorder, 1% of a very high dose will still be absorbed.
However, it could be that there is a shift in the proportions of intestinal bacteria. The intestinal bacteria have a mutual exchange of vitamin B12 and derived substances. A large flood of B12 from a supplement can influence the mutual housekeeping of the intestinal bacteria.
People get varying amounts of vitamin B12 through their diet. In general, the intake is between 2 and 6 micrograms. The highest levels of intake are around 20 micrograms.
As a supplement to a vegetarian or vegan diet, a standard daily dose of 3 capsules of Vega Booster contains 5 micrograms of vitamin B12 in the form of methylcobalamin (200% of the RDA).
The human body can absorb a maximum of about 2 micrograms of B12 per meal. If the three capsules are taken divided between meals, the total absorption of vitamin B12 is therefore higher than when the capsules are taken together.
With a staggered intake, the body's supply of B12 is built up to the maximum level more quickly.
The body's stock of B12 is about 2000 to 4000 micrograms and is largely stored in the liver. If the nutrition is insufficient, about 0.1 to 0.2% of this stock is used daily. This is enough for years. When stocks are exhausted, it takes a long time to replenish them.
Vitamin B12 provides several health benefits:
- it contributes to the reduction of fatigue (and tiredness)
- it contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells
- it contributes to normal function of the immune system
- it contributes to normal cell replication
- it contributes to normal energy metabolism
