In 1998, the Japanese company Japan Bio Science Laboratories (JBSL) succeeded in isolating nattokinase from fermented GMO-free soybeans using a patented production process. Their nattokinase carries the brand name NSK-SD®, which stands for Natural Super Kinase-Spray Dried. One capsule of Vitals Nattokinase-NSK contains 100 mg of NSK-SD®. This corresponds to an enzyme activity of 2000 Fibrinolytic Units (FU). 2000 FU approximates the amount of nattokinase a person receives with an average serving of approximately 50 grams of natto. Nattokinase-NSK does not contain vitamin K2. This is available as a separate supplement if desired.

Producing pure nattokinase with good enzyme activity is far from easy. Several laboratory tests are required to accurately determine the quality of a nattokinase supplement.
