Mood and daylight

Mood and daylight

As we reported two weeks ago, we are experiencing technical problems with our blog. Those problems appear to be larger than expected.
We are not yet able to migrate to a new store, while the blog has been partially destroyed insofar that we were able to recover most articles, but could not save any image. Some articles are not shown in both languages, so it will take a very long time to restore everything. For that reason we will refrain from writing new blog articles for quite some time.

Another reason to skip blogging for a while is a joyful one. We will replace some products that were discontinued by Jarrow Formulas by similar ones from a new-to-us brand, NOW Foods.
Based in Illinois, NOW was founded in 1968, just about 5 years before Jarrow Rogovin started his enterprise in Los Angeles. The company's focus has always been to produce affordable high-quality natural products and as such became like the perfect choice for us, since we aim to do the same.

Over the next few months you will see new products appear. To allow you to find them easily, especially for consumers that are used to the ease of reordering whatever they used to buy, we will also offer those supplements as an alternative option, e.g. saw palmetto and melatonin.

Speaking of melatonin, you will probably not need as much of it in the upcoming period, since it is going to be dark very early as of this weekend when we revert back to the regular (winter) time. Instead, most will yearn for more light and mood lifting supplements.
We can advice you to take a look at our category of mood-enhancing supplements. The more specific mood enhancing supplements are (5-hydroxy)tryptophan, ashwagandha, GABA, rhodiola, SAM-e,  St. John's Wort, theanine, and tyrosine.
However, omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil and especially vitamin D and B12 has proven to work very well as a mood-enhancer especially when there is a deficiency.
Speaking of light, we do emphatically recommend to start taking vitamin D supplements, if you didn't do this already.
Vitamin D is not really a vitamin, since we can make it ourselves in our skin as long was we expose it to the sun. If vitamin D had to be classified today, it would have been given the status of a hormone. Before yours truly started supplementing it, I would not just get the flu more regularly, but also feel quite depressed in winter. This rarely if ever happens nowadays.

For a short discussion on the influence of light on mood, you may want to listen to a discussion between Tim Ferris and a neurology researcher.
