Vitamins: essential components of good health
Vitamins are nutrients that we need very little of, but which are nevertheless essential for the proper functioning of our body. Without vitamins, we could not exist. Most vitamins are cofactors in various bodily processes that involve enzymes. Vitamin B1, B3 and B12 play a role in the activity of certain enzymes that are involved in energy metabolism. Vitamin B1 (also called thiamine) is particularly important as a cofactor in the production of energy from carbohydrates. Since the heart is mainly dependent on carbohydrates for its energy supply, this vitamin supports the normal functioning of the heart.

Folate and vitamin B12: important for a well-functioning homocysteine metabolism
Homocysteine is an intermediate product that is created during the conversion of the amino acid methionine into cysteine. This is a normal process that occurs frequently in the body on a daily basis. It is not the intention (and even undesirable) for homocysteine to accumulate. To prevent this, it must be converted back into methionine or further broken down into the amino acid cysteine. Various micronutrients are involved in the metabolism of homocysteine, of which folate and vitamin B12 are two of the most important. Vitamin B12 works together with 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF, the biologically active form of folate). The vitamin B12 in Heart and Vascular Formula Pro consists of the two biologically active forms, methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin (also called dibencozide). In addition, a superior, biologically active form of folic acid is used: Quatrefolic®, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate bound to (vegetable) glucosamine salt. This is the most stable form of 5-MTHF in supplements and has the highest biological availability. The advantage of these biologically active forms is that they are directly active in the body and do not have to be converted first. 

Vitamin C: good for the condition of the blood vessels
One of the most commonly used supplements is probably vitamin C. This famous vitamin plays a crucial role in the production of collagen, which provides broad support for health. The protein collagen is part of various types of connective tissue in the body. Blood vessels also contain a lot of collagen, which ensures their much-needed elasticity. Olive and grape seed extracts: antioxidants with a specific effect
Heart and Vascular Formula Pro contains hydroxytyrosol, one of the most important ingredients in olives. This polyphenol is known as one of the most powerful plant antioxidants for protecting blood lipids. It is effective even in very low doses. LDL cholesterol in particular is sensitive to oxidation. In order to keep the function of this lipoprotein normal, it is essential that the particle is protected against oxidative damage. The olive extract Hytolive® from producer Genosa contains a high level of hydroxytyrosol and is naturally produced from olives grown in Spain, the world's largest producer of olives and olive oil.

In addition, Hart en Vaatformule Pro contains an extract from grape seeds that is rich in proanthocyanidins. In addition to an antioxidant effect, proanthocyanidins from grape seed extract have a beneficial effect on keeping the heart and blood vessels healthy and maintaining normal blood pressure.

Alpha-lipoic acid: fat and water soluble
Alpha-lipoic acid is a sulphur-containing fatty acid that occurs naturally in the mitochondria of every cell. Alpha-lipoic acid consists of a chain of eight carbon atoms, with two sulphur atoms attached to it. The two sulphur atoms are connected to each other, which creates a ring structure. This ring structure makes alpha-lipoic acid soluble in both fat and water, an important property. Heart and Vascular Formula Pro contains no less than 200 mg of alpha-lipoic acid per daily dose of two capsules.
