Vitals Choline-VC 400mg
Choline has been an underrated essential nutrient (which is part of the group of vitamin B-family) for a long time as so little was known about it.
By 2012 the European Committee acknowledge three health claims for choline. Choline supports a normal lipid metabolism, a normal homocystein metabolism as well as a healthy liver function.
In 2016 EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) announced choline is an essential nutrient, which our body cannot produce in adequate amounts, and needs to be ingested from food or supplements.
For Europe, the recommended daily intake has been established at 400mg/day for adults, based on the average intake in most European countries, which varies between 291 to 468mg/day. Pregnant women are recommended to ingest 480mg/day while the recommended intake for lactating women is higher yet at 520mg/day.
For the USA, the calculation was based on clinical research resulting in what would result in a healthy liver function. This resulted in a higher recommended daily intake of 550mg/day.
Choline is a phospholipid (along with phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyeline) and as such an important component of cellular membranes. Choline is also important for the lipid metabolism: the choline-derivate phosphatidylcholine is a constituent of VLDL-cholesterol and involved in the metabolism and transport of fatty acids out of the liver. Therefore choline is vital for a healthy liver function. Choline is also necessary to form betain, which is a methyl donor for methylating homocystein in the liver. A healthy homocystein metabolism is important to maintain a normal homocystein level.
Synergy
Choline works together with vitamin B6, B12, folate and SAMe. Furthermore phosphatidylcholine which is created by means of SAM-e dependent metabolic pathway, is enriched with DHA to form phosphatidylcholine-DHA. Choline and DHA interact synergistically.

Vitals uses VitaCholine®. This brand guerantees superior quality and is used for most research in choline, especially research done on pregnant women who supplement with choline during their pregnancy.
