Meat = Power?

The traditional view is that to become strong, you have to eat meat. Everyone knows the cliché images of muscular men hunting big game. Not very woke, but is there some truth in it?

Many large muscular animals are plant eaters or ‘herbivores’. But herbivores are also eating all day long. And, not unimportantly, the intestinal tract of herbivorous animals can handle that bulk of food.

Plant-based food

Processing food by, among other things, grinding, cooking and baking, makes it easier for us as humans to absorb energy and nutrients. Through food processing, we can get quite far with plant-based food, while we as humans have an undersized intestinal tract.

With plant-based food, the amount of calories is not a problem. You mainly consume a lot of carbohydrates. Getting enough protein from your plant-based food becomes more difficult. The plant proteins are also more difficult to digest. They yield less net than protein of animal origin.

Adequate absorption of some minerals is also a bit ‘tricky’. Often the minerals in plant-based food are bound in complexes that are difficult to digest. And as for fatty acids, you can forget about the truly essential EPA and DHA unless you know how to get the right algae (oil).

We can hardly avoid it: meat, fish and poultry are the most nutrient-dense foods. They are rich in minerals, trace elements, fats and certainly in protein. In addition, the absorption of all those nutrients from animal sources is easier for our intestinal system.

Your biochemical balance

The human body needs many different substances to function optimally. Even more than the essential ‘micro- and macronutrients’ mentioned above.

The body has to produce all these other substances itself.

Your body is in fact a biochemical factory that is active 24/7. The ‘products’ of the factory are in some cases quite expensive to produce. The production costs a lot of building blocks and a lot of energy. Some of these substances are also needed in quite large quantities. The body chooses to produce less than the amount that would lead to maximum physical performance. The maximum setting is too ‘expensive’.

Carninutrients

Fish, birds and cattle also produce valuable substances that are directly ‘bio-compatible’ with your body. You only have to absorb them from food and your body can use them more or less directly. The most important of these substances are called carninutrients.

When you absorb carninutrients from your food, the levels of these in your body are increased. This is beneficial for the functioning of your body.

When a lot of meat, fish or poultry is eaten, the levels of carninutrients are maximized. Physical performance is then no longer limited by a suboptimal concentration of these substances.

Creatine

The best-known carninutrient is creatine. The human body contains hundreds of thousands of different substances. Approximately half a percent of all solid matter is creatine. That is a fairly large amount. Almost all creatine is found in the muscles and in the brain.

Creatine is of great importance in the energy supply of cells that have high peaks in energy consumption. In muscle tissue, it is mainly the so-called 'white' explosive muscle games that have a high creatine content.

To function well, a somewhat muscular person of 75 kg has about 120 grams of creatine. That is not the maximum concentration that is possible. You lose about 2 grams per day, which the body also produces again.

The body uses another substance for the production of creatine: SAM-e. No less than 50% of the available SAM-e is used for this, while SAM-e is also needed for the production of many other substances such as neurotransmitters and DNA.

If you take extra creatine through food or a supplement, the body will produce less creatine as long as that supply continues. This makes more SAM-e available for other purposes. Some of the positive effects of creatine could be explained by this.

If you eat 3 grams of creatine per day or more, the muscle concentration of creatine can increase by as much as 20%. You are then better able to perform intensive efforts in rapid succession (strength sports, sprinting). You can achieve this by, for example, eating one and a half kilos of beef every day or by using a supplement with creatine. Six capsules of Carnivore Power provide as much creatine as the human body produces daily (2 grams).

Salmon and tuna are rich in creatine. 3 capsules of Carnivore Power contain approximately the same amount of creatine as a meal with 220 grams of these types of fish.

Taurine

In addition to creatine, the carninutrient taurine is also present in large quantities in the body, although it is about half the number of grams of creatine.

Taurine fulfils a large number of different functions. Many of these functions have to do with the 'stabilisation' of cell walls throughout the body. Taurine helps to maintain the mineral balance of cells via this cell wall and thus the fluid balance and the electrical charge.

The fluid balance in cells is of great importance for athletic performance. When fluid is lost, the body is less able to exert itself. And after exercise, a lack of moisture in the cells sabotages the build-up of body proteins. Shrinking cells due to a lack of moisture is a strong catabolic signal. This means that the cells start to break down proteins. Drinking enough is therefore important. Retaining moisture is just as important. This requires an interplay in which water, minerals and taurine play the leading roles.

The effect of taurine supplementation is more noticeable for people over 40 and athletes who eat little meat.

Pork is rich in taurine. 3 capsules of Carnivore Power contain approximately the amount of taurine that you would ingest by eating half a kilo of pork chop.

Carnitine

Carnitine is an amino acid that is best known for the role it plays in fat burning. It transports fatty acids from the cell to the mitochondria, the 'incinerators' of the cell.

There is still a lot of uncertainty about other functions of carnitine. It is involved in various bodily processes. But how carnitine works exactly in those cases is often still unclear.

Young children cannot yet produce enough carnitine themselves. For them, it is an essential nutrient. The elderly and people with a diet that contains little meat have lower carnitine levels. They will notice the most from using a carnitine supplement.

Beef is rich in carnitine. 3 capsules of Carnivore Power contain approximately the amount of carnitine found in 170 grams of lean ground beef.

Carnosine / Beta-alanine

Carnosine is a substance that can buffer the acidity in muscles and the brain. This is important when lactic acid is formed during major exertion. Carnosine prevents excessive acidification. A high concentration of carnosine means that muscle power can be maintained for longer during intensive exertion of medium duration.

Just like creatine and taurine, the body contains quite a lot of carnosine. The previously mentioned well-built athlete of 75 kg with 30 kg muscle mass can have 30 to 40 grams of carnosine at his disposal. It is somewhat less than creatine and taurine, but it is still high on the list of substances that the human body uses a lot of.

The amount of carnosine in the muscles can be increased by as much as 50%. This can be done by training to acidification, by eating a lot of meat (particularly poultry), but especially by taking an amino acid called beta-alanine. You can also supplement carnosine directly, but taking beta-alanine works better. By attaching the amino acid histidine to beta-alanine, your body creates an almost twice as large amount of carnosine as what you take in as beta-alanine. For this reason, Carnivore Power contains beta-alanine instead of carnosine.

Chicken is rich in beta-alanine. 3 capsules of Carnivore Power contain roughly the same amount of beta-alanine as 250 grams of chicken fillet.

Slowly but steadily

It takes some time before the levels of carninutrients are noticeably increased. Give Carnivore Power at least a month at a dosage of 6 to 9 capsules per day. Or longer if you go for 3 capsules. The higher dosages lead to a greater increase and therefore a stronger effect on physical performance.
