Bioflavonoids, or simply flavonoids, are the pigments found in most plants that give fruits and vegetables their colour. Bioflavonoids are powerful antioxidants in their own right, they are even more powerful when combined with vitamin C to enhance its antioxidant properties by keeping it active longer. The three most notable are hesperidin, naringenin and eriocitrin.
Bioflavonoids from citrus fruits and their metabolites may contribute to improved cardiovascular health by reducing free radical damage and promoting the integrity of small blood capillaries.
