Vitals PostBiol-EC with EpiCor®, which is an innovative ingredient that is derived through a proprietary process from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a common single cell microorganism.
- dried fermented concentrate from whole food baker's yeast
- world's most famous postbiotic, from market leader Cargill
- strong scientific basis
- patented production process
EpiCor® is comprised of dozens of compounds and metabolites that work together to help strengthen your immune system by balancing immune response. In other words, it acts like a multivitamin for your immune system.
Unlike other immune ingredients that are concentrated extracts or chemically synthesized compounds, EpiCor is a natural complex ingredient that benefits the immune system in many ways. Multiple published human, animal and in vitro studies show that EpiCor has several modes of action that affect many aspects of immune system health. EpiCor helps strengthen your body’s natural defenses, shown in a sophisticated model to nourish the natural beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract and balances the immune system to appropriately respond when challenged.
When taken daily, EpiCor has been shown to be a safe and effective way to help strengthen your immune system for more healthy days throughout the year.
background information
Postbiotics are the next big thing in the world of nutritional supplements. Vitals introduces a new product with the most well-known postbiotic in the world. Postbiol-EC from Vitals contains EpiCor®, with a unique composition of nutrients that arise from the conversion (fermentation) of nutrients in a natural culture medium by baker's yeast. EpiCor® was developed by a company with over 75 years of experience in natural fermentation processes. It is a so-called postbiotic, which is defined as a preparation of non-living micro-organisms. In addition to metabolic products (metabolites), EpiCor® contains inactive (non-living) baker's yeast cells, which has added value. It can therefore also be seen as a so-called 'whole food' fermentate, in which all components of the fermentation process are still present in the end product. A postbiotic is excellent to use as a supplement to a prebiotic and/or a probiotic, but can also be used on its own in situations where a pre- or probiotic is less suitable.
Prebiotics, probiotics en postbiotics
Pre- and probiotics have been used successfully for many years. The knowledge in this area is therefore much more extensive than on postbiotics, which is a relatively new subject and has only recently come into the spotlight. For a long time there has been no consensus about the term 'postbiotics', which could cause ambiguity in the scientific literature. This changed in 2019 when a large panel of experts from various relevant fields (the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics, ISAPP) reached agreement on a correct definition. The term 'postbiotic' means 'after life' and refers to the essence of a postbiotic, namely that it consists of (parts of) non-living micro-organisms, whether or not in combination with the substances they produce (metabolites). So not simply (and exclusively) the metabolites produced by living microorganisms.
It differs very clearly from prebiotics (water-soluble fibers that can be fermented by the intestinal flora) and probiotics (preparations with live micro-organisms). The advantages of postbiotics compared to pre- and probiotics include that the required dosage of postbiotics is usually much lower and that preparations with non-living micro-organisms have a longer shelf life than preparations with live micro-organisms. This does not alter the fact that these different types of preparations can also be used very well next to each other, because they complement each other nicely.
EpiCor®
As with probiotics, it also applies to postbiotics that research is only meaningful if it has been carried out with that specific preparation (ie with a specific micro-organism or combination of micro-organisms, characterized at strain level, in combination with certain metabolites). One of the postbiotics with which most (human) research has been done at the moment is yeast fermentate EpiCor® from manufacturer Cargill. Traditionally, Vitals attaches great importance to scientific substantiation, which is why Vitals chose for this beautiful raw material to be used for Postbiol-EC.
EpiCor® is produced by means of a patented fermentation process using baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). This microorganism is used because of the thousands of years of human experience in making foods fermented by baker's yeast, and because of the yeast's ability to produce various nutrients. Nutrients in the natural culture medium are converted into a unique fermentate by Saccharomyces under anaerobic (oxygen-free) and strictly controlled culture conditions. The yeast cells are then inactivated by a mild drying process that leaves the formed metabolites intact. In addition to non-living yeast cells, the dried yeast fermentate contains proteins, peptides, antioxidants, minerals, polyphenols, soluble and insoluble fibres, polysaccharides (beta-1,3/1,6-glucans) and mannans (polymers of mannose) in a unique, constant composition. This makes Postbiol-EC from Vitals suitable as a daily supplement to the diet in various situations.
