Jarrow Formulas Iso-Rich Soy has been discontinued, try another plant protein

Jarrow Formulas Iso-Rich Soy contains water-extracted, Non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) soy protein isolate.

what distinguishes Iso Rich Soy?
Consistent isoflavone level. Each serving guarantees a minimum of 29mg of naturally occurring isoflavones, consisting of genistein, daidzein and glycitein.
Water extraction of soy protein preserves naturally occurring isoflavones, saponins and IP6 (Inositol Hexaphosphate).
Saponins, another naturally occurring group of phytonutrients in soy, have been shown in scientific studies to enhance the body’s defense mechanisms.

Iso-Rich Soy is a complete source of essential amino acids and meets or exceeds the daily “Amino Acid Requirement Patterns” for adults measured by PDCAAS (recommended by the Food and Nutrition Board, 1989).

Soy improves the bioavailability of isoflavones
Isoflavones are a subclass of flavonoids found primarily in soy. There are three types of isoflavones in soy, with each type being present in four chemical forms, for a combined total of 12 isomers of soy isoflavones. The names genistein, daidzein and glycitein refer to the unconjugated or aglycone forms of isoflavones. In their conjugated or glycone forms, they become genistin, daizin and glycitin.

Soy assists bone preservation
One of the differences between soy protein and animal protein is that soy protein helps to conserve bone mass by reducing bone calcium loss. However, soy protein itself is not a significant source of calcium. Calcium fortification during fermentation increases the calcium level of soy products. The fermentation process also converts fortified calcium into the organic and more soluble form, calcium lactate. The fortified magnesium citrate is a more soluble form of magnesium which also exerts a positive influence on bone density.

Soy enhances intestinal health
The human gut harbors over 800 species of microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. Some of them are beneficial or neutral, whereas others are harmful. During fermentation, probiotic bacteria produce beneficial metabolites, such as organic acids (lactic acids, etc.) and bacteriocins (bulgaricin, plantaricin, and lactacin). These metabolites play a significant role in maintaining intestinal microbial balance and in minimizing putrefactive by-products.

Soy supports immune system
Bacterial cell walls contain a group of substances called peptidoglycans. Studies have shown that these peptidoglycans help support immune function, as indicated by the stimulation of immunoglobulin production.

Soy supports cardiovascular function
Finally, the FDA has authorized the following health claim: Consumption of 25 grams of soy protein a day, as a part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Soy isoflavones, along with other naturally occurring soy phytonutrients, have been shown in scientific studies to have many health benefits, including maintaining healthy cells, promoting normal cardiovascular function, supporting bone health and assisting estrogen balance.

How to prepare for a quarantine such as COVID-19

Like most of you, we have been following the news on the COVID-19 virus pandemic closely since early January.
With a rapid increase of both infections and people who have been in contact with infected persons, the amount of people who need to go into quarantine, rapidly increases too. Never mind how the entire population in Italy is forced to stay inside with more countries to follow soon.

With ever stricter rules in place, people suddenly realized they are not prepared for events like this, and started buying goods left and right without much of a plan.
Like most of you, I have also not given this much thought, so it stands to reason to go take a look in the USA where 'prepping' for disasters is popular, and rightly so because of the more dramatic weather conditions. Because people in North America generally live much further away from supermarkets and do not always have access to good tap water and electricity power may go off for longer periods of time, most advice given is superfluous for our society where power outages are rare and tap water reliable.
Hence that part of the advice was omitted in the article below.

What is quarantine?

The main rule of quarantine is: "nobody comes in and nobody goes out". If you are in quarantine, you are distancing yourself from people aside from the ones in quarantine with you, like your family or roommates. The reason for this is to stop the spread of an illness or possible illness.

Should I worry about my cholesterol levels?

Recently, new guidelines were introduced for what is deemed to be a healthy cholesterol level. While formerly, it was adviced to introduce cholesterol lowering drugs when your 'bad' cholesterol level amounted to over 2.5 mmol/litre, that number now dropped to 1.8.
This big drop will probably result in a vast increase of people that are being administered cholesterol lowering drugs.

But what if I told you, cholesterol is a poor marker for heart health?

For decades, cholesterol testing has served as that warning for many. An elevated level of "bad" LDL cholesterol has been just the warning people needed to change their ways. It has played that role for several reasons. People like tests because the results seem objective. Reliable measurement of cholesterol is easy and relatively inexpensive. It makes sense biologically. LDL cholesterol, a protein-wrapped package containing fat and cholesterol, tends to slip out of the bloodstream and lodge in blood vessel walls, forming the plaque that leads to clots and heart attacks.

And it makes sense statistically. The correlation between lowering your LDL and lowering your chances of having a heart attack or developing other forms of heart disease is well documented. Indeed, exercise and dietary changes are good for the heart partly because they lower LDL cholesterol levels.

 Bone loss in menopause

Osteoporosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon when bones decrease in density, resulting in weakness and a higher likelihood to break.
Anyone can develop osteoporosis, not just women over 50 years but also men (generally over 70) or anyone who's been bedridden for a long time. The scary part is that bone loss happens without noticable symptoms until a bone breaks spontaneously after a fall that normally would only leave bruises.
