SAM-e 400mg 30 tablets - S-Adenosyl Methionine | Jarrow Formulas
Jarrow Formulas SAM-e 400mg 30 tablets :SAM-e is an amino acid derivative clinically proven to benefit brain, liver and joint function. Found in all living cells, SAM-e is called “activated methionine”, formed by the combination of ATP and methionine. Methionine supplementation, however, does not elevate SAM-e. Rather, it elevates toxic homocysteine.
SAM-e has undergone many clinical trials involving thousands of patients. Researchers have identified many structure and function-based benefits of SAM-e involving over 40 biochemical processes. It is a biochemical workhorse with various diverse effects on the body, including improving liver function, enhancing cartilage formation and lifting mood.
Liver detoxification
SAM-e metabolism supports glutathione (GSH) synthesis and glutathione-dependent enzymes, which support liver function. GSH, the chief antioxidant and detoxifier inside cells, scavenges free radicals produced during carbohydrate breakdown for energy. Taurine is another end product of SAM-e metabolism. GSH and taurine are important for liver detoxification.
Brain function
SAM-e supports brain function by its methylation effects. Methylation is the transfer of a methyl group (one carbon and three hydrogen atoms, CH3) from one molecule to another. SAM-e is the most important of all methyl-donators in mammalian metabolism. Donation of methyl groups supports numerous metabolic processes including brain function, energy production and DNA metabolism.
Neurotransmitters, substances involved in nerve cell communication, are products of methylation. These compounds include L-dopa, dopamine, serotonin, epinephrine and phosphatidylcholine (in lecithin). There is a connection between SAM-e levels and cognitive health. Conversely, increasing serotonin and dopamine levels contribute to brain health and improved mood. SAM-e works quickly; many people feel the effects within a week.
Energy production
Methylation from SAM-e is critical for creatine production. Creatine metabolites are important for ADP to ATP recycling, and storing energy for immediate needs. Creatine maximizes physical performance, reduces exercise fatigue and improves recovery after exercise.
Longevity
A healthy young body manufactures all the SAM-e it needs. However, with age, people are less able to produce adequate SAM-e. This may contribute to declining health on many levels. Fortunately, these disturbances are often mitigated by SAMe supplemention.
Methylation of DNA is an important part of DNA repair. De-methylation of DNA contributes to the aging process. Proper methylation, via substances such as SAM-e, positively influences longevity.
Healthy connective tissue
Research has shown that regular SAM-e supplementation helps improve joint health, and is used in Europe by physicians for the management of knee pain.
Not all SAM-e is created equal
SAM-e exists in two forms: (S,S) SAM-e and (R,S) SAM-e. The biologically active form is the (S,S) structure, while the (R,S) structure is inactive. Jarrow Formulas SAM-e is predominantly the active form. It is made naturally by microbiological fermentation and then specially processed, without solvents, to preserve 68-80% (S,S) SAM-e, the highest active level available.
SAM-e is a highly reactive molecule and very fragile. It degrades rapidly under high heat or humidity. Improper handling of SAM-e can cause degradation in a matter of hours. Thus, the manufacturing process for Jarrow Formulas SAM-e is done under low temperature and low humidity, and the tablet is enteric coated and blister-packed. Pharmacokinetic studies show that oral supplementation of SAM-e is most effective when enteric-coated by special gastric fluid-resistant polymers, and results in maximum blood levels.

Feeling sad and stressed due to COVID-lockdown?
Depression in winter time is quite normal, because we aren't exposed to the vitamin D-generating sunrays, which also enhances immunity levels. Fortunately, we can take vitamin D supplements to combat seasonal depression as well as enhance immunity levels.
Another way to chase sadness away is by celebrating, no matter whether that's Sinterklaas, Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas or New Year. We will decorate our houses, exchange gifts and overeat , get a bit tipsy and enjoy ourselves.
This year is different: restaurants, shops and even gyms need to close down and we are not allowed to gather together in groups. Lack of entertainment, retail therapy and exercise will make it much more difficult to overcome feelings of depression.
It gets worse when you are among those who work in the tourism or entertainment industry and have lost your job as well as most of your income.
For now it is probably best to just accept the current state of affairs and try to console yourself with non-edible goods, such as nice music with a good book, entertaining movie, and aromatherapy (perfume/room fragrances).
And, weather permitting, put on your walking shoes and go for a long walk in the forests or local park.
But perhaps you have been feeling too stressed to enjoy whatever you still can do to relax? Or you were already feeling sad before COVID-19 came along? In that case, DHEA might help.
Skin hunger: why we crave touch
As we are in the midst of the Easter Holiday, we can't help but feel sad. While Mother Nature is showing abundant signs of spring during a period of incredibly sunny weather, we are barely allowed to go outside other than to do what is absolutely necessary. Our gyms have been closed for almost a month now while in some countries, people aren't even allowed to exercise. Not just group exercise, but also to just jump on a bike and go for long rides.
While couples and families get grumpy from living together in a cramped space, others face different problems: they are living without any companion whatsoever. Therefore it's not a miracle how all of a sudden, pet asylums have been able to 'clear out' their list of unwanted pets. Not just because people have more time at hand to walk a dog (just about the only thing some are allowed to do) but also because they crave the ability to touch a living being, for lack of being able to touch another human.
Somehow, just like the sense of smell is overlooked, this also is true for the sense of touch. Only when we lose it, we crave it. This craving also is called 'touch hunger' or 'skin hunger'.
How to beat andropause, the condition that ails all elderly males
Andropause is a medical condition, similar to the female menopause, that can affect men between the ages of 40 and 65. Men do not have a clear-cut signpost to mark the transition. In women estrogen drops dramatically at menopause, but testosterone levels in men drop very gradually over many years and decades. The bodily changes in andropause occur very gradually in men and may be accompanied by changes in attitudes and moods, fatigue, a loss of energy, sex drive, stamina, and physical agility.Andropause may be triggered not only by declines in testosterone, but in the "female" hormone estrogen as well.
There is a growing interest, as well as a booming industry, in the use of testosterone therapy for middle-aged and older men. This interest has led to the definition of a new condition, termed 'andropause' implying that this condition is due to falling levels of testosterone. This trend risks replicating both the rejuvenation fads of a century ago and the recent experience in estrogen therapy for menopause that has been propelled for decades by advocacy substituting for reliable scientific evidence. Is testosterone therapy appropriate for men with symptoms of male menopause? There is no scientific agreement on this topic.
But it stands to reason that hormones should be used only as a last resort since they have serious risks if misused.
When is drinking alcohol bad for your health?
In the past decade we were told indulging in one or two glasses of alcohol (just one for women) a day is healthy. This was even one of the many recommendations in the national (Dutch) health guidelines. In the past year though, a drastic change occurred: the recommendation changed into zero to perhaps to a most one glass of alcohol a day! So, what gives?recommended use
take 1 tablet a day, with water (NOT milk) preferably on an empty stomach preceding a meal or as advised by a qualified physician
For optimal use as a joint supplement, combine SAM-e with JarroSil (biologically active silicon)
For optimal use as prevention of hangovers, take before imbibing alcohol
