Jarro-Zymes Plus 100 capsules - lipase, protease , amylase, alfa-galactosidase for healthy digestion | discontinued
Jarro-Zymes Plus contains a blend of digestive enzymes to support digestion and nutritional status. The three main human digestive enzyme classes are included to assist in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. because their composition is similar to that of human pancreatic enzymes and they are superior to vegetable enzymes.
Porcine pancreas contains a complex of natural enzymes including proteases, amylases, lipases, trypsin, and chymotrypsin among others.
Alpha galactosidase is produced by single cell fermentation and facilitates digestion of legumes.
who can benefit from Jarro-Zymes Plus?
The body’s own production of digestive enzymes can decline with age, while at other times normal levels may need a boost after eating significant quantities of particular foods. Jarro-Zymes® Plus can help promote smooth digestion and facilitate digestive comfort in such cases.
how do the active ingredients function in Jarro-Zymes Plus?
Pancreatine supports healthy digestion and comfort
Lipase promotes digestion of fat: 10 000 USP units break down 10 grams of fat
Amylase promotes the digestion of starches: 55 000 USP units break down 50 gram of potato starch
Proteasepromotes the digestion of protein: 1 capsule will digest 50 gram of milk protein (casein)
Alpha galactosidase promotes the digestion of beans and legumes, modulates gas production and support abdominal comfort
Alpha galactosidase supports inflammatory health.
what distinguishes Jarro-Zymes Plus?
• similar to human pancreatic enzymes
• richer in lipase than other pancreatic supplements
• complete digestion of meals with carbohydrates, proteins and fats
• 1 capsule digests 50 gram of protein
• superior to vegetable enzymes, yet also facilitates digestion of legumes
Many digestive enzymes are produced by the pancreas, and each has specific functions. Lipases are digestive enzymes that are widely distributed in the plant world, milk products, bacteria and molds. Lipases aid in fat digestion by hydrolyzing fat in the small intestine. Amylases are a class of enzymes that break down starch and complex carbohydrates into useable sugar molecules. Proteases are a class of enzymes that hydrolyze the peptide bonds that link amino acids together into polypeptides and proteins. These three classes of enzymes are critical to our body’s ability to convert the food we eat into the energy and nutrients needed to survive and thrive.
Reduced or impaired digestive enzyme production
Both human and animal research has demonstrated that the levels of digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas decrease with age. Suboptimal pancreatic function—caused by pancreatic and non-pancreatic disorders—may also cause impaired production of pancreatic digestive enzymes, resulting in poor digestion and malnutrition.
Inadequate digestive enzyme function can be addressed through the use of pancreatin, a pancreas extract from pork (porcine) or beef (bovine) sources that contain lipase, protease, and amylase. Jarro-Zymes® Plus uses only porcine pancreatin, to most closely replicate the body’s own form.
Pancreatin is a good source of lipase, so it should not come as any surprise that pancreatin supplementation has been found to reduce fat content in stools and improve nutritional status in people with suboptimal pancreatic function.
Other studies have found that people with impaired digestion due to suboptimal pancreatic function experienced improved digestion after supplementation with pancreatin. Similarly in a double-blind study using lipase from pancreatin, healthy individuals had increased digestive comfort after consuming a high-fat meal.
Part of pancreatin’s benefits may result from supporting cholecystokinin (CCK) production—an intestinal hormone that stimulates bile secretion and consequent fat digestion. Because pancreatin is rapidly emptied from the stomach during digestion, people taking a digestive enzyme product may obtain better results by spreading out supplementation throughout the meal, if possible.
Bloating, abdominal distention, and flatulence represent very frequent complaints by those with suboptimal digestive function. Patients frequently associate these symptoms with excessive intestinal gas. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study that focused upon intestinal gas production and gas-related symptoms, the fungal enzyme alpha-galactosidase was evaluated in healthy volunteers. The volunteers ingested 300 or 1200 AGS units of alpha-galactosidase or placebo during a test meal containing 420 g of cooked beans.
The alpha-galactosidase groups showed positive results for clinical endpoints like breath hydrogen excretion, severity of bloating, abdominal pain, discomfort, flatulence, and diarrhea. Clearly, alpha-galactosidase promoted digestive function and comfort following a meal rich in fermentable carbohydrates and may be helpful in patients with gas-related symptoms.
Other benefits from Jarro-Zymes® Plus
The pancreatin in this product provides proteolytic enzymes (i.e., proteases). In addition to being digestive aids, these proteolytic enzymes are regulators and modulators of the inflammatory response.
Many studies have demonstrated the positive effects of proteolytic enzymes on inflammatory health. As such, Jarro-Zymes may offer additional benefits for athletic injuries or other cases where irritation and tenderness are a concern. To achieve these types of proteolytic benefits, the product should be taken on an empty stomach so that the enzymes can be absorbed rather than used in the gut.
One of the knocks against digestive enzymes is that they will succumb to being digested themselves before they can affect digestion.
In 1986, Peter Rothschild, M.D. and his colleagues at the Maya Clinic in Mexico demonstrated that digestive enzymes can, in fact, pass through the mucous and submucous layers of the intestines where they are packaged into liposomes.
Due to their size, liposomes have very little surface tension and can thus penetrate intestinal layers and reach lymphatic receptors. This allows orally ingested digestive enzymes to be absorbed whole and intact, where they can be re-deployed where needed..
The seal of quality
Enzymes are often measured in terms of enzyme activity rather than in terms of simple weight. AGS Units is a measure of starch digesting activity.
Each 425 mg capsule of Jarro-Zymes® Plus provides the following:
• Lipase 10.000 USP units
- (capable of digesting 10 grams of fats)
• Protease 55.000 USP units
- (capable of digesting 50 grams of milk protein)
• Amylase 55.000 USP units
- (capable of digesting 50 grams of dry potato starch
• alphagalactosidase 625 AGS units
Jarro-Zymes Plus contains porcine pancreatic enzymes because their composition is similar to that of human pancreatic enzymes and they also are superior to vegetable enzymes.
Alpha-galactosidase is produced by single cell fermentation and facilitates the digestion of legumes.

Why celebrating life with food is important for our health
Especially in the darkest months of the year, there seems to be an endless amount of celebrations.
No matter what is always a common theme: food is the main attraction! In fact, the focus society currently places on food has caused us to associate certain foods with holidays, past events and special times. When we sink our teeth into such foods, it can bring back memories we hold close and take us back to a time we enjoyed. Food is much more powerful than we think!
From catching up for coffee, relaxing over brunch, indulging in a long lunch or bonding at a BBQ, it’s hard to imagine getting together without the company of food. Food is something we all have in common, we all must eat, most of us find food pleasurable and trying new foods or cafes is a new experience we can share with others.
Symptoms and natural treatments of indigestionIndigestion or heartburn can happen when your body has trouble digesting food. Anyone can get it on occasion, or it can be an ongoing problem. Heartburn is especially prominent in December with so many holidays accompanied with delicious foods, that prompt us to overindulge.
While acid reflux is a common phenomenon, not all symptoms of it, are very obvious.
When heartburn happens, for instance due to smoking, alcohol, medication, carbonated drinks or some foods that are difficult to process (spices, fats, acids, fiber) may cause a valve-like stomach muscle to loosen, allowing stomach acid to backwash into the esophagus. This exposes sensitive tissue in the chest to stomach acids, causing painful symptoms.
Common symptoms of reflux are a burning feeling in your chest or stomach, burping, bloating, gurgling stomach, acid reflux, heartburn, nausea or even vomiting.
Problems in your GI tract or other health issues also can cause indigestion. These include:
- acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux (GER), or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): A reaction to food and drink where contents come back up from your stomach. The acid can come up into your esophagus, the tube-like organ connecting your mouth and stomach. Acid reflux also can produce vomiting. This condition causes heartburn because of the high acid contents.
- irritable bowel syndrome: a disorder that affects your intestines. Symptoms include stomach pain, bloating, gas, constipation, and diarrhea.
- infection: a bacterial infection from Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) can cause indigestion.
- gastroparesis: A condition that affects digestion. If muscles in your GI tract stop working, your body slows down or stops the movement of food. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, bloating, and acid reflux.
- ulcer: A sore on the lining of your stomach (peptic ulcer), small intestine, or esophagus.
- gastritis: Inflammation of your stomach lining.
- stomach cancer: This is a rare condition, but indigestion can be one of its signs.
Health from a pineapple: combat inflammation with bromelainPineapples are one of the most well-loved tropical fruits around the world. But if you're a constant surfer of the web, you've probably come across an article or two saying that pineapples "eat you right back." And the culprit? It's none other than enzyme bromelain.
Aside from its popularity because of this viral information, bromelain has managed to penetrate the medical world because of the impressive health benefits it offers. If you're interested or curious on why bromelain is now getting unvaried attention, continue reading and know more about this pineapple product.
Indigestion and fatsAfter having been vilified for years as useful but tasty nutrient, fats have been embraced again. Contrary to carbohydrates, fats are not just an energy source, but building blocks for the entire body and of utmost importance for immunity and a proper working brains.
Irritable bowel syndrome
Many of us suffer silently from chronic bowel pain. Contrary to many other types of pain, we rarely go and see a doctor for treatment, unless the discomfort is intolerablen as with Crohn's disease, thinking there is not much that can be done.
While it is true there are few useful drugs that help with bowel pain, diet, lifestyle changes and supplements can and do help a great deal. Pinpointing what food exactly aggravates your symptoms is very important and calls for the so-called elimination diet in which you make a list of foods that worsen your symptoms.
