Jarro-Dophilus Oral Probiotic 30 lozenges peppermint flavour with 1 billion viable bacteria | Jarrow Formulas
Jarrow Formulas Oral Probiotic contains over 1 billion Lactobacillus brevis CECT 7480 and Lactobacillus plantarum CECT 7481 probiotic strains per lozenge. Lactobacillus brevis CECT 7480 and Lactobacillus plantarum CECT 7481 were isolated from the oral cavity of a healthy infant and studied in vitro and in vivo. These documented strains help promote and maintain beneficial oral microflora for the health of the gums and teeth and better breath.
The vegetarian acid resistant capsule helps maximize survival of viable probiotic bacteria while in transit through the stomach.
Lactobacillus brevis CECT 7480 and Lactobacillus plantarum CECT 7481 exert significant, specific inhibitory activity that promotes oral and dental health (teeth and gums), better breath and restores oral flora.
Lactobacillus brevis CECT 7480 and Lactobacillus plantarum CECT 7481 naturally occur in a healthy human mouth and are low acid producing Lactobacilli strains to preserve enamel and dentin integrity. These bacteria have shown to efficiently adhere to tissues representative of the mouth (teeth, gums, tongue) and resist antimicrobial components in saliva.
Jarro-Dophilus® Oral Probiotic contains 5 billion organisms per lozenge at the time of manufacture and at least 1 billion per lozenge at Best Used Before date if stored as directed.
Jarro-Dophilus Oral Probiotic contains over 1 billion colony forming units (CFU) Lactobacillus brevis CECT 7480 and Lactobacillus plantarum CECT 7481 probiotic strains per lozenge.
L. brevis CECT 7480 and L. plantarum CECT 7481 were isolated from the oral cavity of a healthy infant and studied in vitro and in vivo. These documented strains help promote and maintain beneficial oral microflora for the health of the gums and teeth and better breath.
The Healthy Mouth
The human oral cavity contains on average 750 million microorganisms consisting of more than 30 genera of bacteria per each millimeter of saliva. These oral microflora vary depending on the surfaces (e.g. teeth, cheek mucosa) and on specific surface sites (e.g. fissures, gingival crevices). The oral microflora has a delicate balance. This balance is easily altered by diet, medication, smoking, saliva flow, denture wearing, health status, and so forth. It is also affected by aging because immune and hormonal responses tend to decline with age. Healthy and stable oral microflora are critical for maintaining the health of not only the mouth, but also surrounding tissues, such as the throat, nose, and ears, as well as general immune function. The right oral indigenous microorganisms can provide the first defense of the immune system for the mouth and nasal passages.
Proper oral hygiene routines require brushing, flossing, and anti-microbial mouth rinsing. However, the effects of these hygiene practices are always short-term and they can disrupt the normal microflora. Oral probiotics can safely enhance oral and dental health by replenishing beneficial bacteria that are commonly found in healthy people and by antagonizing growth of undesirable microorganisms. The antibacterial molecules of oral probiotics specifically target bacteria that challenge the integrity of tooth enamel. Some strains also produce enzymes that help keep the gums and teeth healthy while supporting a healthy immune response
Documented Strains Matter™
The bacterial strains in Jarro-Dophilus® Oral Probiotic were chosen for use as oral probiotics to support the health of the teeth and gums through a rigorous selection process described in detail in “Isolation and characterization of probiotic strains for improving oral health.” Selection criteria stressed both antagonism to the growth of competing bacteria in the mouth and success in surviving various challenges. These strains are protected by US Patents.
L. brevis CECT 7480 and L. plantarum CECT 7481 survived against mouth lysozyme and hydrogen peroxide. Strains were selected with the best ability to resist barriers to probiotic microbiological colonization of the oral cavity. To perform properly, oral probiotics must be tough enough to survive normal mouth conditions and compete with undesirable organisms.
Low Acid Production
Selected strains were found to be able to grow and colonize different points of the mouth cavity (tongue, gums and teeth) without producing high amounts of acid in order to protect dentin integrity.
Inhibition of potentially undesirable organisms is a key point for this product. It’s well known that aggregation of probiotics not only implies synergistic effects in the antagonism of undesirable microorganisms, but also to facilitate the biofilm formation by the probiotic species.
Adhesion to the teeth, tongue and oral cavity to extend probiotic protection. Tests have shown that these probiotic strains adhere to analogues of the dentin that make up the teeth, adhere to tissues such as those that compose the oral cavity and adhere tissues that compose the surface of the tongue. Adhesion of the probiotic strains means protection against colonization by less desirable bacterial strains.

Oral health is a reflection of our overall healthOn March 20 we celebrated the International Oral Health Day'. According to the dentist Richard Kohsiek, who's a board member of the Royal Dutch Dental Association, we should think more often about the consequences of oral health as "Oral health is a reflection of our overall health".
What encompasses good oral health?
"In the mouth there are good and bad bacteria. As long as there is a prober balance between good and bad mouth flora, there is not much wrong. Things only go out of control when the bad bacteria outgrow the good bacteria. "
"Plaque is the white part that we see grow on our teeth is formed by a combination of bacteria and food remnants. Becasue these calcify it grows into tartar on locations where the tooth brush can't reach".
Can artificial sweeteners harm gut health and make you gain weight?Early September we published an overview of various natural and artificial sweeteners that are currently available and possible avantages or disadvantages associated to them.
Until very recently the clear-cut explanation of all official governmental dietary agencies as well as most mainstream dieticians was that artificial sweeteners are harmless and not a single iota of proof was available to the contrary.
Even your humble writer still believed sweeteners are relatively harmless as by definition, rats and mice aren't human so evidence about harmfulness for those laboratory animals doesn't prove too much.
However, over time more and more evidence has come up that artificial sweeteners are truly not as good for your waistline as you think they are, in ways that wasn't looked at before. Our gut microbes, which have a bigger influence on your weight and insulin sensitivity than we realize, are negatively inflenced by the artificial sweeteners we ingest.
Fluoride, should you avoid it?A year ago, the Dutch Supreme Court of Justice ruled taxation of fluroided tooth paste should be lowered from the higher tariff meant for luxury gooods such as beauty items to the low tariff that is used for medication and nutritional supplements and meds as fluorided tooth paste can be considered as medicine.
This resulted in quite a big price gap between fluorided tooth paste and non-fluorided tooth paste.
However, since the effectiveness of fluoride has been up to debate it was felt to be an unjust difference by quite a few people who even say fluoride is poisonous. Is fluoride really poisonous? We thought you'd be just as curious about the answer as we are.
How pets can improve your healthNearly everyone of us lives with a pet in their household or has grown up with pets in their family as pets are such a source of joy.
Pets can bring relief in stressful periods as the simple act of petting an animal can reduce stress levels and lower blood pressure, which goes as far as easing chronic pain due to the release of endorphins and curing post-traumatic disorders!
Sugar = sugar?!While baking recipes used to simply recommend using flour and sugar, the hip cookbooks now recommend you to use agave syrup, or coconut sugar , because it is healthier and more natural. It sure sounds like more natural, but is it really?
Friendly aliensProbiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. Probiotics help move food through your gut, and ease symptoms of (antibiotic-related or spontaneous) diarrhea and bowel diseases.
Furthermore probiotics can improve skin conditions like eczema, improve urinary and vaginal health. Probiotics are vital for our immunity as they are solely responsible for keeping the gut healthy.
