Healthy bowel function: how does normal poop look like?

One of the major challenges during a heatwave is to drink enough water, so you don't end up dehydrated because the body evaporates so quickly. 
One of the more painful results of dehydration is needing to spend much more time in the restroom, sometimes even resulting in a hemorrhage. 
Vice versa, we eat more salads and BBQ-foods, both of which are known to cause diarrhea due to improper preparation or preservation. 
 
It is quite obvious that in order to have a pleasant and not too long stay in the restroom, our stools should neither contain too little nor too much water. Most of us will probably have a habit of quickly inspecting their stool, even if it is just the brief moment before flushing it down the toilet. Apart from observing the consistency of your stool, what else can you observe from inspecting your stool?

What are the different types of poop?

Poop, also known as stool or feces, is a normal part of the digestive process. Poop consists of waste products that are being eliminated from the body. It may include undigested food particles, bacteria, salts, and other substances such as improperly absorbed drugs.
 
Sometimes, poop can vary in its colour, texture, amount, and odor. These differences can be worrying, but usually, these changes are not significant and will resolve in a day or two. Other times, however, changes in poop indicate a more serious condition.

How to avoid lead poisoning

Although exposure to lead has decreased within the last two decades, it is still a concern and caution is advised, especially for children who have access to toys with lead-based paint or individuals who live in older homes. In some instances, lead can leach from the main water pipes and into the household water supply. If exposed to lead, eating a healthy diet can help reduce its absorption by the body.

When lead is consumed, research shows it can cause learning and behavior problems; as it accumulates, it can cause lasting problems with growth and development. Infants and children are at a higher risk because they absorb lead more quickly than adults, in addition to being more likely to put non-food items that might contain lead in their mouth.  

Timing of supplements

We frequently receive the question whether it really matters when to use a particular supplement.
Most supplements come with instructions to ingest them with a meal. This is in the assumption that meal contain fat, as fat will aid with absorption through the gut wall. Whether or not this can be your first meal of the day, depends on how much fat it contains. Especially fat-soluble vitamins, such as A,D, E and K need fat for proper absorption.
A work-around is to ingest them together with a larger amount of fish or krill oil softgels if your first meal doesn't contain enough fat.
