Inflammation Relief 60 capsules - boswellia, optimized curcuma and ashwagandha | AOR
AOR Inflammation Relief is formulated to maximize the bioavailability of standardized Boswellia serrata extract, Curcuma longa from Longvida®* and ashwagandha, which are botanicals used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.
Inflammation Relief is used in herbal medicine as an anti-inflammatory to help relieve joint pain.
- the most effective herbal anti-inflammatory formula available
- reduces pain in inflammatory conditions such as arthritis
- includes three powerful anti-inflammatory herbs enhanced for better absorption, bioavailability and effectiveness
AOR is pleased to introduce a novel and a powerful formula for addressing chronic inflammation. Inflammation Relief, one of the first products to be launched in AOR’s new nanoVAILABLE line, is a multiple ingredient formula with powerful herbs that have been clinically studied to help reduce inflammation. Moreover, these herbs are subjected to a unique and safe process (industry first) that forms nano-miscelle-particles that are small enough to easily penetrate the intestinal lining and enter the blood thereby considerably enhancing the absorption and bioavailability of these herbs. The proof of course is in the results.
Inflammation – A Double-Edged Sword
nflammation is a necessary process for survival of any species during infection, injury, damage and repair but persistent inflammation is the cause of numerous diseases. In healthy tissue there is a balance between agents that promote inflammation and those that block it. When there is an infection or injury, the pro-inflammatory agents (like tumor necrosis factor, interleukins, NF- kappaB etc) rally to eliminate the infection or damage and return the tissue to health.
When health is restored, these pro-inflammatory agents return to normal levels. In some cases however, the immune system switches from an acute mode to chronic, low-grade-inflammation that can persist for months or years.
Low grade chronic inflammation is a feature of many chronic diseases including, atherosclerosis (damage of blood vessels), arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, cancer and even obesity!
Tackling Chronic and Persistent Inflammation
One way is through the use of natural anti-inflammatory agents. Unlike the pharmaceutical agents, the natural agents have multiple benefits including: non-specificity, multiple mechanisms of action, considerably lower toxicity, synergistic action and many of these herbs have been used for hundreds of years. However, many of these natural ingredients are inherently poorly absorbed and therapeutic concentrations are difficult to achieve in tissues.
Each liquid capsule of Inflammation Relief contains:
Curcumin - one of the key constituents of turmeric spice widely used in East Asian cooking and ayurveda. Curcumin is one of the most widely studied natural molecules its safety has been widely acknowledged. Like many natural ingredients curcumin has multiple mechanisms of action including neutralizing powerful and damaging free-radicals, preventing the activation of NF kappa B one of the most powerful inflammatory molecules.
Longvida®, a highly bioavailable form of curcumin, is the result of testing over two hundred formulations and has taken more than ten years to develop. In a human study on cancer patients, Longvida® curcumin was shown to be over 100 times more bioavailable than regular curcumin. This formulation was developed and patented by UCLA Medical School.
Boswellia serrata - Boswellia is the unsung hero of the herbal kingdom in terms of battling inflammation that deserves credit for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects.
In clinical studies, Boswellia significantly reduced swelling and pain and improved joint mobility in inflammation associated with osteoarthritis. It is Avurveda’s answer to NSAID’s (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)!
Ashwagandha - The king of herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, the diverse health benefits of this herb make it an excellent addition to many formulations for an array of health conditions. Ashwagandha has anti-inflammatory and anti-stress benefits.
Ashwaganda has numerous studies supporting its role as an anti-inflammatory especially reducing Interleukin 1 and 6 levels, key pro-inflammatory agents. Ashwaganda has synergistic activities with both curcumin and Boswellia. Studies also show that ashwaganda improves quality of life.
Oleanolic acid - A triterpene found in many plants, this common but not well-known molecule has anti-inflammatory, liver protective and antioxidant effects.
Oleanolic aicd is a triterpenoid another polyphenolic molecule widely found in nature especially in herbs like rosemary, cumin and thyme. Triterpenoids are actively researched for antioxidant properties in quenching both reactive oxygen species as well as reactive nitrogen species. Oleanolic acid has been demonstrated to have anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antitumor properties in scientific studies.
Common treatments for inflammatory joint conditions include natural supplements, dietary changes, and immune suppressants and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) orally or as a cream, the use of which can result in negative side-effects. The most popular natural anti-inflammatories on the market are omega-3 fatty acids, although turmeric powder is gaining popularity. However, the active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, so taking a pure curcumin supplement is much more effective. Alas, up to 8 grams of pure curcumin are sometimes required for therapeutic results! This makes getting enough curcumin very difficult! As curcumin, its medicinal potential and its bioavailability issues are becoming more mainstream, many different formulas have been launched lately which claim to have the most effective curcumin product available.
Boswellia is not yet well-known in North America, but its anti-inflammatory potential has been shown to be equivalent to that of NSAIDS but without the negative side-effects! Unfortunately, Boswellia is also known for its poor bioavailability. Up to 3 grams are required for effective use, so consuming a therapeutic dose can be burdensome.
Oleanolic acid and ashwagandha are not well-known anti-inflammatories, but both do have anti-inflammatory effects, and both suffer from poor absorption and bioavailability.
Advantage of Inflammation Relief
Longvida® was introduced to Canada by AOR in 2011. Longvida® Optimized Curcumin was developed and patented by UCLA Medical School and is licensed exclusively to Advanced Orthomolecular Research (AOR) in Canada. It consists of curcumin nanoparticles envelopped in a lipid matrix called Solid Lipid Particles to enhance its bioavailability up to 100 times that of regular curcumin, the highest on the market.
The ashwagandha and oleanolic acid in Inflammation Relief have undergone the process of nano-technology where the particle sizes have been reduced to less than 1 µm in order to facilitate absorption. The Boswellia extract in Inflammation Relief has been dissolved in medium-chain triglycerides, a fatty medium that permits the self-emulsion of Boswellia. This enhances its absorption by the body and gives it stability. These processes are an industry first, introduced by AOR in 2009.
Inflammation Relief contains superior ingredients that have been studied for their inflammation-reducing properties. Curcumin, Boswellia, ashwagandha, and oleanolic acid work synergistically in a ground-breaking formula to help prevent the inflammatory response, reduce pain and prevent chronic inflammation

Optimal care for elderly catsWhile we don't have children, we are the proud parents of two cats. Both were adopted from their owners for a different reason with well over ten years between each adoption.
Our oldest cat has reached the respectable age of 18 years, which makes her a truly old cat, which comes with many health problems of its own. By now we are more like the grand children who are taking care of their very old (great-)grand parent.
It subsequently blows your mind to see how senior cats are put on an even lower protein diet than they already receive. While felines are full-on carnivores, most will received a mixed diet with an unhealthy amount of carbohydrates. If you're lucky the grains are replaced by legumes, which however does not considerably lower the amount of carbs. Never mind on the precious few choices for cats with urinary or kidney problems.
We thought to put together some tips for owners of (future) senior cats, so you know in advance where to pay attention to.
If you have a feline in the family who’s getting up in years, the good news is that many cats today are living into their late teens and early 20s. With the proper care, a cat in good health at 8 can easily live another 10 or 12 years, or even longer. Now is the perfect time to begin taking steps to ensure not only that your cat stays happy and healthy throughout her golden years, but that she also enjoys an excellent quality of life.

What's the relation between histamine and gluten intolerance?A short while ago, I was alerted to research that is being conducted on histamine intolerance. The reason it piqued my interest was the remark on how perceived gluten intolerance may in reality be a case of histamine intolerance. The researchers that were interviewed spoke about probiotics being developed to 'cure' histamine intolerance.
Therefore, without further ado, an explanation on what histamine intolerance really is.
What is histamine?Histamine is an extremely important bioactive chemical that is indispensable in the efficient functioning of many body systems. It is a neurotransmitter and is involved in the regulation of stomach acid, the permeability of blood vessels, muscle contraction, and brain function.
In humans, the highest histamine concentrations are found in the skin, lung, and stomach, with smaller amounts in the brain and heart.
Histamine is also essential in defending the body against invasion by potentially disease-causing agents such as bacteria, viruses and other foreign bodies.
Histamine is made and stored within white blood cells such as mast cells.
When the immune system is activated in response to foreign material entering the body, histamine is the first "defense chemical", or more correctly, inflammatory mediator released in the process called inflammation. Inflammation is the clinical evidence that the immune system is responding to a potential threat to the body. Histamine is always present when inflammation occurs, and excess histamine will result in symptoms that resemble inflammation.
In addition to its role in controlling vital body processes and defending against foreign invaders, histamine is a key mediator in the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Since allergy is essentially an inflammatory reaction, histamine, together with other protective inflammatory mediators is released in response to the allergen.
Allergens are components of living cells that in themselves are harmless, such as plant pollens, animal dander, mould spores, dust particles, dust mites, and foods. An allergic reaction to these "foreign but harmless" substances occurs when the immune system mistakes these innocuous materials for a potential threat.
Plastics in our bodyOnly fairly recently we have become aware of the dangers of plastics in our environment.
For a long time we thought these plastics would not be of any concern to us. However, invariably, most plastics end up somewhere in the environment: they sit at the bottom of the sea, mix into beach sand, and blow in the wind. They’re also inside us.
It's possible that humans may be consuming anywhere from 39 to 52 thousand microplastic particles a year. With added estimates of how much microplastic might be inhaled, that number is more than 74 thousand.
People who drink only bottled water ingest an additional 90 thousand particles.
When researchers from Johns Hopkins looked at the impact of eating seafood contaminated with microplastics, they too found the accumulated plastic could damage the immune system and upset a gut's balance.
Scientists are scrambling to understand the dose at which microplastics start to have noticeable health effects. Like air pollution or harmful construction materials, those who have more exposure or pre-existing conditions may be less able to tolerate plastic.

Should I worry about my cholesterol levels?Recently, new guidelines were introduced for what is deemed to be a healthy cholesterol level. While formerly, it was adviced to introduce cholesterol lowering drugs when your 'bad' cholesterol level amounted to over 2.5 mmol/litre, that number now dropped to 1.8.
This big drop will probably result in a vast increase of people that are being administered cholesterol lowering drugs.
But what if I told you, cholesterol is a poor marker for heart health?
For decades, cholesterol testing has served as that warning for many. An elevated level of "bad" LDL cholesterol has been just the warning people needed to change their ways. It has played that role for several reasons. People like tests because the results seem objective. Reliable measurement of cholesterol is easy and relatively inexpensive. It makes sense biologically. LDL cholesterol, a protein-wrapped package containing fat and cholesterol, tends to slip out of the bloodstream and lodge in blood vessel walls, forming the plaque that leads to clots and heart attacks.
And it makes sense statistically. The correlation between lowering your LDL and lowering your chances of having a heart attack or developing other forms of heart disease is well documented. Indeed, exercise and dietary changes are good for the heart partly because they lower LDL cholesterol levels.
Health from a pineapple: combat inflammation with bromelainPineapples are one of the most well-loved tropical fruits around the world. But if you're a constant surfer of the web, you've probably come across an article or two saying that pineapples "eat you right back." And the culprit? It's none other than enzyme bromelain.
Aside from its popularity because of this viral information, bromelain has managed to penetrate the medical world because of the impressive health benefits it offers. If you're interested or curious on why bromelain is now getting unvaried attention, continue reading and know more about this pineapple product.
Why is turmeric such a magical herb?
Recently, it became once again evident how mainstream media is being manipulated by Big Pharma to scare the public away from using well-known and empirically proven supplements towards using pharmaceutical medicine.
One such health scare tactic was aimed towards the use of curcumin, which has become one of the most popular health supplements , among which to support people recovering from breast cancer.
Apparently, one effect of curcumin is that it speeds up detoxification processes in the liver, which results in medicine being broken down more easily.
In this particular health scare, that's an undesirable side-effect because tamoxifen, a frequently used post-treatment drug, is also broken down more rapidly and hence, becomes less effective at lower dosages, when combined with high dosages of curcumin.
While this was touted as proof how dangerous it is to take unproven herbal supplements, this is nothing out of the ordinary. Many other products can speed up the liver detoxification process, with the most famous of them being the mood-enhancing herb St. John's Wort.
However, there are other products that do the contrary, among which grapefruit as well as green tea , which slow down the same detoxification liver enzyme.
Some of you may not be aware yet why both turmeric and curcumin have become such popular condiments as well as food supplements. Therefore we present you a breakdown on what curcumin is about.
History of conventional cancer treatmentsThere isn't a single person alive who hasn't experienced how a family member or loved one died because of cancer.
For myself this was most dramatically present in my mom and her sister who both developed breast tumors in the late 70s.
While my aunt chose to get treated conventionally, my mom chose the other path and went to a doctor who practiced an alternative diet-based therapy. In the end both died, my aunt of breast cancer, and my mom of a massive heart attack when her (then considered) atypical symptoms were unrecognized in hospital.
Since then I've been watching with both disgust and admiration how science has ben progressing. Disgust because conventional science kept ignoring the positive impact alternative medicine, along with diet and lifestyle can have on health. Admiration because of the major advances that have been made using ever less disruptive and dangerous approaches.
While it sometimes may seem as if cancer is a modern disease, nothing could be further from the truth. Cancer occurrences have been noted throughout history.
Magical turmericTurmeric (Curcuma longa) is a spice grown in India and other in tropical countries in Asia . This spice has been part of religious ceremonies in India for thousands of years. Turmeric is related to ginger with which it shares some of its active ingredients.
How can allergies be avoided in children?Children who are exposed to more allergens and bacteria in their homes during the first year of life may be less likely to suffer from allergies, wheezing and asthma later on.
Researchers found that 3-year-olds who were exposed to mouse dander, cat dander and cockroach droppings before they turned 1 were three times less likely to suffer from wheezing, allergies and asthma than those who lived in homes without these allergens.
What causes muscle soreness?Delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS) is a type of pain that most will experience after doing unusual exercise for the first time. There have been several theories to as what causes muscle soreness. At first lactic acid was blamed, but lactic acids disappears quite rapidly and the time period between exercise and soreness too large.
