Jarrow Formulas Glucosamine + Chondroitin + MSM 240 capsules provides efficacious quantities of Glucosamine Sulfate, Chondroitin Sulfate, and MSM combined with Vitamin C and Manganese for optimizing joint health.
who can benefit from Glucosamine + Chondroitin + MSM?
Anyone with suboptimal joint function who wants to promote joint mobility, flexibility, and comfort may find this product beneficial.
Glucosamine Sulfate is an essential component of joint tissue and can be utilized to produce synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints.
Sulfur is also utilized in the production of cartilage tissue.
Chondroitin Sulfate stimulates the synthesis of hyaluronic acid (a component of synovial fluid), which is the lubricant for joints as well as a major component of connective tissue in the skin.
Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane (MSM) is an organic source of sulfur, an antioxidant mineral and critical component of structural body tissues such as cartilage. The sulfur from MSM is incorporated into joint tissues as glycosaminoglycans (or mucopolysaccharides) such as chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid.
Vitamin C and Manganese are required for the synthesis of collagen and cartilage.
It is often suggested that there are three requirements to keep cartilage healthy: water for lubrication, proteoglycans to attract and hold the water, and collagen to keep the proteoglycans in place. Proteoglycans are large molecules made of protein and carbohydrates. They hold water like a sponge helping to make cartilage resilient.
Glucosamine is a major building block of the water-loving proteoglycans. Not surprisingly, the very presence of glucosamine stimulates the production of more proteoglycans. The fact that glucosamine increases the synthesis of these key elements of cartilage indicates that it may actually help repair cartilage. In fact, for many years glucosamine has been successfully used for supporting and promoting healthy joint cartilage repair and maintenance. This has been demonstrated by experimental as well as clinical studies, in which glucosamine led to functional joint improvement.
Several studies have shown that besides stimulating the production of cartilage, glucosamine may significantly help to improve suboptimal joint function. Patients taking glucosamine for up to 3 years seem to have significantly less knee joint degeneration, less joint space narrowing, and significant symptom improvement when compared with placebo. In one study of 1,208 patients supplemented with glucosamine, pain improved steadily throughout the treatment, and 95% of the patients enjoyed a positive response. Glucosamine even continued to work 6-12 weeks after usage had stopped. Many clinical trials show that taking glucosamine supports functionality compared to placebo, but other trials do not find such conclusive results.
Although usually studied independently, some reports have indicated that glucosamine and chondroitin work synergistically. Chondroitin is the perfect complement to glucosamine since chondroitin acts like a biological version of a “liquid magnet,” attracting fluid into proteoglycans. This fluid acts as a shock absorber and also brings nutrients with it into the cartilage. Perhaps of greater significance than its fluid-enhancing properties, chondroitin protects existing cartilage through its modulatory effects on enzymes that degrade cartilage. Furthermore, like glucosamine, chondroitin stimulates the production of proteoglycans and collagen that are needed for healthy new cartilage.
In one randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the effectiveness of chondroitin was evaluated for promoting joint health in the knee. In this study, 300 human subjects were given either 1200 mg chondroitin or placebo once per day for 2 years. The group receiving the placebo had progressive joint space narrowing, while the those receiving chondroitin showed no change in mean joint space width.
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane (MSM)
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring, sulfur-containing compound that is both present in body fluids and tissues and is found in milk, fruits, vegetables, and grains (in small amounts). Animal research has shown that joints with lower levels of cartilage also have low sulfur content. In one animal study, the effect of prolonged oral administration of MSM was examined in relation to joint health. It was found that MSM was capable of promoting joint health.
In a preliminary double-blind trial in human subjects with suboptimal joint function, daily supplementation with MSM promoted joint comfort after six weeks. In a separate placebo-controlled trial, researchers studied 50 men and women who also had suboptimal joint function. These men and women were given MSM daily or a placebo for 12 weeks. The MSM group showed signifi cant increases in comfort and physical function when compared to the placebo group.
Vitamin C and manganese
Vitamin C’s role in collagen formation and the health of connective tissue is well known. In addition, vitamin C consumption seems to mitigate the risk of cartilage loss in people with suboptimal joint function. Manganese is the preferred cofactor of enzymes called glycosyltransferases; these enzymes are required for the synthesis of proteoglycans that are needed for the formation of healthy cartilage and bone.
Jarrow Formulas Glucosamine + Chondroitin + MSM combination provides efficacious quantities of glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, and MSM combined with vitamin C and manganese for optimizing joint health. Glucosamine + Chondroitin + MSM combination utilizes a sodium free form of GS stabilized with only potassium chloride (KCl). For best results, use with , the biologically Activated Silicon.

Pets and your health
The strength of the human animal bond has been known for a long time, but scientific studies were only conducted fairly recently.
The very first study was published only about 40 years ago when 2 American psychology researchers measured what happens physically when a person pets a friendly and familiar dog. They found that the person's blood pressure lowered, heart rate slowed, breathing became more regular and muscle tension relaxed-all of which are signs of reduced stress.
Return to sports after knee surgery, is it possible?
Whether you are a top athlete or an amateur, it will happen to you do one day or later: you will have a sports injury.
One of the most common dramatic sports injuries is a torn anterior cruciate ligament, abbreviated to ACL.
When you tear your anterior cruciate ligament or ACL your knee swells with blood. When the knee swells, that triggers a cascade of events which causes you to lose quadriceps strength. In addition you will notice that your thigh looks a lot smaller than the other one. That is due to atrophy of the quadriceps which occurs after an ACL injury.
In addition to the loss of quadriceps strength and atrophy which accompanies an ACL tear you will also notice loss of motion and in most cases a fair amount of pain.
Many athletes choose to have ACL surgery to improve their chance of returning to the same level of performance as they had before.
The sad reality is that many athletes can not return to sports after ACL surgery. The reasons for this vary. As such, there is a lot of research taking place to improve your chance for a successful return to sports after an ACL reconstruction.
But first the question whether ACL surgery should be done.
Glucosamine for healthy joints and gutGlucosamine is a compound naturally found within the cartilage of our joints, made from chains of sugars and proteins bound together. It acts as one of the body’s natural shock-absorbents and joint lubricants, allowing us to move around without joint, bone and muscle pains.
Glucosamine possesses natural anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. One of the most popular supplements taken by people with bone and joint pain, glucosamine aids in treating common symptoms of age-related disorders like arthritis and osteoarthritis.
It can also help improve digestion and gut health, mobility, range of motion and general joint health, even in healthy people who have no chronic joint or bowel disorders.
Without glucosamine, everyday movements and tasks would be very difficult and painful. The body needs glucosamine for the synthesis of certain proteins and fats that form various important tissues, especially cartilage. This plays an important part in the construction of our joints, tendons and ligaments. In addition, it helps form the (synovial) fluids that surround joints and provide lubrication.
Glucosamine also serves an important role in microbial health. It helps form connective tissue that make up parts of the digestive tract, a system that helps the immune system function.
Botox: what is it and is it dangerous?Nowadays, you often hear how people have used botox in order to get rid of unwanted wrinkles. Apparently, 3 out of 4 users are satisfied enough to recommend it to others. As a matter of fact, botox has become so popular, there are even so-called 'botox parties' in which the guests all receive injections while having a drink and bite.
Although botox was approved for medical use almost 30 years ago in 1989, it was only approved for cosmetic treatment 15 years later in 2002.
Botox became rapidly popular as a solution to sagging skin. So much so, that perhaps you too are considering to do it as well.
However it is a smart idea to get familiar with how botox works and what to expect in order to make a smart decision.
Scoliosis, and kyphosis, how much does it influence your fitness level?
The leading personal trainer and researcher Brat Contreras, famous for his glute-building hip thrust exercise that earned him the title 'Glute Guy', made the following statement:
"In my experience as a personal trainer, it seems that the whole darn world is preoccupied with some sort of perceived imbalance, anatomical anomaly, or dysfunction that they've been made aware of by a prior trainer, physical therapist, chiropractor, doctor, or manual therapist. The vast majority of individuals come to me and warn me right away about their gluteal amnesia, or leg length discrepancy, or pelvic torsion, or tight hip flexors.
How pets can improve your healthNearly everyone of us lives with a pet in their household or has grown up with pets in their family as pets are such a source of joy.
Pets can bring relief in stressful periods as the simple act of petting an animal can reduce stress levels and lower blood pressure, which goes as far as easing chronic pain due to the release of endorphins and curing post-traumatic disorders!
Why are we so much less flexible when we age?
We cannot stop but smile at how adorable babies and toddlers look when they move: they may be clumsy but their little bodies can bend as if they have no bones to stop their amazing range of motion. The reason is these toddlers have a very high amount of collagen in their joints.
