Collagen is a fibrous protein found in connective tissues, skin, bone, etc. It provides strength and firmness to various parts of the body.
Collagen has a complex structure composed of three polypeptide chains packaged into triple helix configuration.
There are different types of collagen proteins found in the body. Among them, type 1, 3 and 2 are abundant.
Type 1 collagen is the most abundant collagen in mammals and found in skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones.
Type 2 is the most abundant collagen in the cartilage.
JarroSil® Activated Silicon® activates hydroxylation enzymes necessary for collagen cross-linking, which is essential to collagen structure and function.
Grape skin extract is rich in antioxidant polyphenols including anthocyanins to reduce oxidative damage to the skin collagen network. Vitamin C is essential for collagen assembly and helps protect the skin against oxidative stress, while niacinamide supports skin DNA repair after UVA exposure.
How to prevent or treat varicose veins with natural remedies?Sometimes it seems like varicose veins come out of nowhere when you’re least expecting it. Most people over the age of 60 have some degree, and usually they’re not a big deal. But they could be, it depends on the general health of your veins.
Valves in your veins are supposed to work harmoniously to move blood in one direction, to the heart!
If your heart is weak, or your valves stop working, or your veins lose collagen and become weakened, then the blood stays in your legs and feet longer than it should. It pools faster if you’re standing for a long time or if you’re sitting for a long time like during a long plane flight. The pressure inside your veins makes them wider and after a while, micro amounts of blood leak out into the surrounding tissue.
Varicose veins form, that is what you see when you look at your legs and see those twisted, distended big blue veins. It causes venous insufficiency. You are not the only one suffering: a large amount of especially elderly people and those who have to stand for a long time in their jobs, have varicose veins. They mostly impact the legs and feet.
Return to sports after knee surgery, is it possible?
Whether you are a top athlete or an amateur, it will happen to you do one day or later: you will have a sports injury.
One of the most common dramatic sports injuries is a torn anterior cruciate ligament, abbreviated to ACL.
When you tear your anterior cruciate ligament or ACL your knee swells with blood. When the knee swells, that triggers a cascade of events which causes you to lose quadriceps strength. In addition you will notice that your thigh looks a lot smaller than the other one. That is due to atrophy of the quadriceps which occurs after an ACL injury.
In addition to the loss of quadriceps strength and atrophy which accompanies an ACL tear you will also notice loss of motion and in most cases a fair amount of pain.
Many athletes choose to have ACL surgery to improve their chance of returning to the same level of performance as they had before.
The sad reality is that many athletes can not return to sports after ACL surgery. The reasons for this vary. As such, there is a lot of research taking place to improve your chance for a successful return to sports after an ACL reconstruction.
But first the question whether ACL surgery should be done.
Why does skin wrinkle when we age?Normal healthy skin has a nice epidermis with a smooth outer layer that acts as a barrier to water and environmental injury. Skin colour and tone is even and unblemished. Components such as collagen that make the skin look firm and plump.
Elastin is what makes the skin elastic while glycosaminoglycans keep the skin hydrated. These three are all abundant when we are young.
So, what causes the skin to look wrinkled? That is a result of a combination of both intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging.
Silicon supplement rejuvenates skin, hair and nailsIt's not only gelatine and biotin that make your nails stronger. Studies show that silicon compounds do so too. Belgian researchers demonstrated the effect of orthosilicic acid in an experiment in which they gave women with an aging skin a mere 10 mg silicon daily.
Fears about contamination of eggs or supplements
In the past week of early June, a lot of fear was placed in the heart of the public of both Dutch, German and French customers, when officials from the National Food Safety Board announced eggs had to be destroyed due to contamination with a banned substance, called fipronyl.
The reason this happened, is that fipronyl is an amazingly effective insecticide that was perfectly legal for use in stables where egg laying poultry live. This insecticide was however banned from January 1 onwards for use on animals in the food chain, with the main reason behind the ban being its toxicity to bees.
Why are we so much less flexible when we age?
We cannot stop but smile at how adorable babies and toddlers look when they move: they may be clumsy but their little bodies can bend as if they have no bones to stop their amazing range of motion. The reason is these toddlers have a very high amount of collagen in their joints.
