BroccoMax delayed release 60 capsules trial-size - broccoli extract with sulforaphane glucosinolate (SGS) | Jarrow Formulas
Jarrow Formulas BroccoMax Delayed Release 60 caps broccoli seed extract.
Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli have been associated with antioxidant and cellular protection.
Jarrow Formulas BroccoMax contains a standardized concentration of SGS (Sulforaphane Glucosinolate) extracted (without solvents) from broccoli seeds.
SGS is metabolized to sulforaphane (isothiocyanate), which is a highly reactive antioxidant. In extensive studies, sulforaphane, which is converted to Indole-3-carbinol in the body, has been demonstrated to be a potent inducer of phase 2 detoxifying enzymes and protector of DNA. Each capsule of BroccoMax contains 30 mg of sulforaphane glucosinolate (yielding 8 mg of actual sulforaphane), a concentration at least 20 times greater than that found in a broccoli plant.
DRCaps® is a registered trademark of Capsugel®.
The Sulforaphane Generator™
Cruciferous vegetables (Brassica oleracea spp.), such as broccoli, are associated with antioxidant and cellular protection in part because they are sources of sulforaphane glucosinolate and myrosinase which together produce sulforaphane (a powerful, beneficial phytochemical).
BroccoMax® contains a standardized concentration of sulforaphane glucosinolate (SGS) and the enzyme myrosinase from broccoli seeds that have been processed using ultra clean super critical technology.
Sulforaphane glucosinolate is metabolized to the isothiocyanate known as sulforaphane. Myrosinase facilitates this transformation when the two compounds are released together into a liquid environment such as the upper intestines. In extensive studies, sulforaphane has been demonstrated to be a potent inducer of Phase 2 detoxifying enzymes and to be a protector of DNA. The Phase 2 enzymes activated by sulforaphane may remain active as antioxidants in the tissues for up to three days.
A Treasure Chest of Benefits
For more than two decades, researchers have been exploring the benefits of SGS (also called glucoraphanin), its much more active metabolite known as sulforaphane, and other constituents of cruciferous vegetables as long-lasting antioxidants and much more.
These compounds work together to activate the body’s Phase 1 and 2 detoxification enzymes. Phase 1 enzymes make many toxins more water-soluble in preparation for their elimination from the body, but in the process can increase their toxicity. Phase 2 enzymes promote the removal of toxins. Thus, the Phase 1 and 2 enzyme systems must be in balance to protect health. Current research shows that SGS initially activates Phase I enzymes.
When metabolized to its isothiocyanate form known as sulforaphane, the compound boosts the activities of the Phase 2 enzymes and also boosts the level of thioredoxin, an enzyme that – among other things – protects retinal cells of the eye against various types of oxidative attack.
In addition, sulforaphane:
• supports blood pressure and cardiovascular health
• is active in the area of gastric health, including supporting healthy stomach acid levels
• promotes normal, healthful inflammatory responses, including the suppression of COX-2, the activation of antioxidant enzymes, and modulation of cytokine production
• enhances the regulation of cellular integrity
• inhibits Advanced Glycation End (A.G.E) product-induced damage
Myrosinase-Activation for Sulforaphane Potential
Broccoli naturally contains myrosinase, broccoli’s own activator of sulforaphane production. However, during normal habits of consumption of broccoli and related vegetables because of cooking and other processing, generally it is left to bacterial action in the GI-tract to complete the metabolism of SGS to sulforaphane.
This has poor efficacy because approximately 70 percent of sulforaphane preferentially is absorbed in the upper part of the small intestine, whereas most bacterial activation takes place below the primary absorption sites. In addition, bacterial conversion varies among individuals, and bacterial conversation is usually quite low. Broccoli seed extracts, although often rich in sulforaphane glucosinolate, until now have not supplied the myrosinase needed to free sulforaphane.
Delayed Release Capsule Protection
Activation is only one half of the requirement for effective delivery of sulforaphane. If the two starting compounds are exposed to moisture prior to reaching the small intestine, SGS and myrosinase will activate prematurely resulting in the loss of potential sulforaphane. Similarly, if SGS and myrosinase are combined together in the acid environment of the stomach, the type of sulforaphane (sulforaphane nitrile) that is formed is largely inactive.
This means that SGS and myrosinase should be released only when they have reached the upper small intestine, which is the area in which sulforaphane is primarily absorbed.
BroccoMax® solves the riddle of sulforaphane activation. BroccoMax® combines sulforaphane glucosinolate and myrosinase along with vitamin C (as Calcium Ascorbate) to help catalyze the sulforaphane generating reaction. This potent combination is delivered in acid resistant, delayed release vegetarian capsules known as DRcaps®.
This facilitates the formation of sulforaphane in the upper part of the small intestine, the ideal environment for the formation and absorption of sulforaphane. BroccoMax yields a minimum of 8 mg pure sulforaphane potential per capsule in in vitro tests.

The true danger of COVID-19 vaccines : why we should avoid leaky vaccinesTwo weeks ago I wrote in my blog on how I did not want a vaccine out of madness because governments won't allow the use of HCQ or ivermectin, both of which are both safe and cheap treatments against COVID-19.
However, I said to not see anything wrong in the vaccine itself. By now I've changed my mind. No, I don't actually deem mRNA vaccines to be unsafe, nor am I too worried about the very rare side-effects of clotting.
What truly spooked me is the fact these are 'leaky' vaccines, which allows viruses to still infect people despite being vaccinated. They just won't get sick, but can become hosts of viruses that may still infect unvaccinated people. Who , in the end no longer will have any other choice but to get vaccinated when a virus has mutated into a too dangerous variant.
At least this is the theory from dr Geert Vanden Bossche, a prominent virologist who spoke out against massive vaccination.
Why is the fact those vaccines are leaky so scary? Let me explain with an article on Marek's disease in chickens.
Plastics in our bodyOnly fairly recently we have become aware of the dangers of plastics in our environment.
For a long time we thought these plastics would not be of any concern to us. However, invariably, most plastics end up somewhere in the environment: they sit at the bottom of the sea, mix into beach sand, and blow in the wind. They’re also inside us.
It's possible that humans may be consuming anywhere from 39 to 52 thousand microplastic particles a year. With added estimates of how much microplastic might be inhaled, that number is more than 74 thousand.
People who drink only bottled water ingest an additional 90 thousand particles.
When researchers from Johns Hopkins looked at the impact of eating seafood contaminated with microplastics, they too found the accumulated plastic could damage the immune system and upset a gut's balance.
Scientists are scrambling to understand the dose at which microplastics start to have noticeable health effects. Like air pollution or harmful construction materials, those who have more exposure or pre-existing conditions may be less able to tolerate plastic.
Particulate matter and your healthAs the Dutch government decided to move away from natural fossilized energy sources, we are moving towards solar and wind energy.
Because solar and wind energy cannot provide all energy and a decision to also move away from natural gas, biomass plants seemed to be the perfect solution.
Biomass is plant or animal material used for energy production (electricity or heat). It can be purposely grown energy crops, wood or forest residues, waste from food crops (wheat straw), horticulture (yard waste), food processing (corn cobs), animal farming (manure, rich in nitrogen and phosphorus), or human waste from sewage plants.
Burning plant-derived biomass releases CO2, but it has still been classified as a renewable energy source in the EU and UN legal frameworks because photosynthesis cycles the CO2 back into new crops. In some cases, this recycling of CO2 from plants to atmosphere and back into plants can even be CO2 negative, as a relatively large portion of the CO2 is moved to the soil during each cycle.
However, over the past few months it has become clear how a lot of biomass comes from trees, that were previously pristine forests in the USA or the Baltics.
While in the best case, the use of biomass could even be CO2 negative, burning biomass will result in excessive CO2 output locally as well as of particulate matter.
This is why almost overnight, due to negative public opinion, politicians changed their mind. Too late though, there are already few hundred biomass plants that are being constructed due to substantial subsidies that were handed out, so we can expect a substantial worsening of air quality in the upcoming decade(s) because of the increased amount of particulate matter.
Low-dose radiation therapyLast week I listened to a Dutch podcast, which in general discusses news and politics, but for once, talked about low-dose radiatian therapy as a way to treat COVID-19. This made me curious enough that I wanted to find out more about this particular treatment method.
Most of us know at least one person, whos's been treated with high-dose radiation order to get rid of a malignant tumor. It is less well known that low dosages can be used as well and is used in some countries to treat inflammation disorders such as arthritis.
In general, this is met with disbelief as the official point of view is "all radiation is harmful" .
Proof to the contrary
Yet, over 3000 scientific research papers show that low dose irradiation is stimulatory and/or beneficial in a wide variety of microbes, plants, invertebrates, and vertebrates.
How to avoid lead poisoning
Although exposure to lead has decreased within the last two decades, it is still a concern and caution is advised, especially for children who have access to toys with lead-based paint or individuals who live in older homes. In some instances, lead can leach from the main water pipes and into the household water supply. If exposed to lead, eating a healthy diet can help reduce its absorption by the body.
When lead is consumed, research shows it can cause learning and behavior problems; as it accumulates, it can cause lasting problems with growth and development. Infants and children are at a higher risk because they absorb lead more quickly than adults, in addition to being more likely to put non-food items that might contain lead in their mouth.
PFAS pollutants causing turmoil
In October, nearly every construction project came to a grinding halt in the Netherlands, because not a single project except the smallest ones can be completed without excessive paper work or laboratory tests.
Why? The current legal threshold for PFAS, an abbreviation for perfluorinated alkylated substances has been set extremely low until the government is able to define a proper health limit for contaminated soil so as to prevent contamination of clean soil with more heavily contaminated soil.
If cemeteries hadn't been exempt from the rule, not a single dead body could have been interred, since PFAS-chemicals , also known as 'forever chemicals' have accumulated in our bodies to an extent that exceeds the legally set threshold, which is currently as low as the lowest possible detection level.
What is PSA?Every year, thousands of men are told they have a high PSA level after undergoing a routine screening test. The most important and most concerning cause of an elevated PSA is prostate cancer. However, prostate cancer is only one of many potential causes of an elevated PSA. Virtually anything that irritates the prostate will cause your PSA to rise, at least temporarily.
What exactly is PSA? PSA or Prostate-specific antigen is a protein produced by the prostate and found in the blood.
A PSA blood test can detect prostate cancer early, which makes it seem like a no-brainer to get tested.
Many prostate cancers grow slowly, so a PSA test may save the lives of some men whose prostate cancer would go undetected otherwise.
However, there is a downside to testing for PSA as quite frequently there is no real health risk even though somenone's PSA-levels are elevated. Some men will undergo unnecessary surgeries or radiation treatments, which could cause lifelong problems such as erectile dysfunction or incontinence.
History of conventional cancer treatmentsThere isn't a single person alive who hasn't experienced how a family member or loved one died because of cancer.
For myself this was most dramatically present in my mom and her sister who both developed breast tumors in the late 70s.
While my aunt chose to get treated conventionally, my mom chose the other path and went to a doctor who practiced an alternative diet-based therapy. In the end both died, my aunt of breast cancer, and my mom of a massive heart attack when her (then considered) atypical symptoms were unrecognized in hospital.
Since then I've been watching with both disgust and admiration how science has ben progressing. Disgust because conventional science kept ignoring the positive impact alternative medicine, along with diet and lifestyle can have on health. Admiration because of the major advances that have been made using ever less disruptive and dangerous approaches.
While it sometimes may seem as if cancer is a modern disease, nothing could be further from the truth. Cancer occurrences have been noted throughout history.
What are free radicals? The body is under constant attack from oxidative stress. Oxygen in the body splits into single atoms with unpaired electrons. Electrons like to be in pairs, so these atoms, called free radicals, scavenge the body to seek out other electrons so they can become a pair. This causes damage to cells, proteins and DNA.
Free radicals are associated with human disease, including cancer, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and many others. They also may have a link to aging, which has been defined as a gradual accumulation of free-radical damage.
Substances that generate free radicals can be found in the food we eat, the medicines we take, the air we breathe and the water we drink. These substances include fried foods, alcohol, tobacco smoke, pesticides and air pollutants.
Free radicals are the natural byproducts of chemical processes, such as metabolism. Free radicals can be seen as as waste products from various chemical reactions in the cell that when built up, harm the cells of the body.
Yet, free radicals are essential to life. The body's ability to turn air and food into chemical energy depends on a chain reaction of free radicals. Free radicals are also a crucial part of the immune system, floating through the veins and attacking foreign invaders.
Good and bad estrogensEstrogen has long been considered a risk factor for a variety of women’s cancers, especially breast cancer. In fact, the risk of breast cancer has been shown to increase with the number of premenopausal years, when estrogen levels are highest. Research has shown that natural estrogens can also be classified as “good” or “bad”. For example, 16a-hydroxylated (“bad”)estrogen metabolites have stronger estrogen activity and are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, while 2-hydroxylated (“good”)estrogen metabolites are weaker and are not associated with increased risk of estrogen positive cancers.
What causes autism?Currently an increasing amount of parents refuse to have their children vaccinated as an increasing amount of reports come in about how it is said to cause autism. As someone who formerly worked with vaccines, this sounds like an incredibly unlikely link. According to what I've heard one of the reason for the link is research conducted by a scientist who was said to have done fraudulent research. Also it is said autism is generally discovered at around the age a child is being vaccinated so the two things are related by accident and not by causation.
What is DIM?Did you know that the unassuming broccoli or those mounds of Brussels sprouts may hold the answer to preventing breast cancer?
These types of foods fall into category know as Brassica vegetables, all of which contain a plant compound that has been known to detoxify excess estrogen and work to prevent hormone-related cancers. When you eat these veggies, the chewing process releases plant enzymes, which in turn create a phytochemical known as indole-3-carbinol (I3C).
Rare metals as tumour fighting drugs? The earliest reports on the therapeutic use of metals or metal-containing compounds in cancer and leukemia date from the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. They were forgotten until the 1960s, when the anti-tumour activity of an inorganic platinum complex called cisplatin was discovered. This led to the development of other types of non-organic cytostatic drugs.
Detoxify your bodyA lot of people start the new year with resolutions and often, one of these resolutions is doing a 'detox'. Detoxification involves the removal of toxic substances from the body. Detoxification occurs mainly in the liver, but the kidneys, bowels and skin are also important when it comes to clearing toxins from the body.
