Beautysil Hair & Nails 60 tablets - biologically active silicon with biotin and MSM | Jarrow Formulas
Jarrow Formulas Beautysil Hair & Nails formula specifically focuses on 3 nutrients proven to beautify and strengthen hair and nails: biotin + Activated Silicon® from JarroSil® + bioavailable sulfur from MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane) sulfur to provide benefits that go beyond conventional multi-vitamin / mineral supplements.
JarroSil® is a silicon supplement in the form of stabilized silicic acid. Silicon is needed for the health of the hair & nails. It is a major mineral component of the nails and contributes to hair shaft strength and hair shine and luster.
Biotin is essential for normal hair growth and is associated with nail health.
MSM is an organic source of bioavailable sulfur. Sulfur-containing compounds are found in high concentrations in keratin and collagen. Keratin, the key structural component of the hair & nails, gets much of its strength and stability from sulfur-based “bridges.
JarroSil® is patented Activated Silicon® supplying stabilized molecular clusters of silicic acid. JarroSil® Activated Silicon® contributes bioavailable silicon for the formation of keratin and the support and repair of the hair & nails.

What is JarroSil®?
JarroSil® is a patent pending Activated Silicon™ formula, containing stabilized molecular clusters of silicic acid. This stabilized silicic acid formula is concentrated at 8,000 parts per million. That’s 160 times more concentrated than is theoretically possible in a water solution, which is possibly only up to 50 ppm. Stabilized silicic acid molecular clusters are the key to JarroSil. They quickly and easily form ortho- (i.e. mono-) and disilicic acid in the stomach, the form of silicon the body uses. JarroSil also contains boron, another important mineral for bone and collagen health, to enhance the metabolism of silicon. JarroSil supports bone health, joint function and collagen production; it also helps strengthen and beautify hair, skin and nails.
JarroSil Contains Activated Silicon
The bioavailable form of silicon is monomeric (single unit) silicic acid [Si(OH)4], sometimes referred to as orthosilicic acid or monosilicic acid. Silica [SiO2] is silicon dioxide and is not bioavailable. Silica is also the most common component of sand. Silicon is found in food (and horsetail) as silicates, which are likewise not bioavailable. All dietary silicon must be converted in the stomach into monomeric silicic acid for it to be absorbed and used by the body. JarroSil is an efficient source of bioavailable silicon.
JarroSil and Skin
The skin is the largest organ of the human body, contributing up to 15-20% of our body weight. Skin is composed of a large amount of connective tissues. Bioavailable silicon was shown to increase collagen concentration up to 12.5% in the dermis of the skin of calves. Silicon is crucial for activating the hydroxylation enzymes involved in cross-linking collagen, which improves the strength and elasticity of this fibrous protein. Better collagen means better skin, more elasticity and fewer wrinkles.
JarroSil for Hair and Nails
The outer shaft of hair is intended to be very strong, essentially as strong as any fiber. This outer shaft of hair, that also provides elasticity and strength, is rich in silicon. Adequate silicon can help hair grow thicker and stronger. The predominant minerals in nails are calcium, silicon and sulfur. A sign that silicon may be systemically deficient is nails that are brittle or soft.
Biotin is known by many names, including Cis-hexahydro-2-oxo-1H-thieno[3,4-d]-imidazole-4-valeric acid, biotina, Coenzyme R, D-biotin, vitamin B7, vitamin H and W Factor. It is a water-soluble B vitamin typically found in liver, egg yolk, cereals, legumes, and nuts. It is essential for normal skin and hair growth, lipid metabolism, and energy production (ATP). Biotin supplementation is used for preventing and managing biotin deficiency associated with pregnancy, long-term parenteral nutrition, malnutrition, rapid weight loss, alcoholism, blood sugar imbalance, and multiple carboxylase deficiency. Biotin also commonly is taken orally for hair loss, brittle nails, and for other purposes. For support in blood sugar regulation, a specific combination providing 2 mg biotin plus 600 mcg chromium daily has been used in clinical trials.
Biotin for Hair & Nails
Some of the more overt signs of biotin deficiency are hair loss and a scaly red rash around the eyes, nose and mouth. Less clearly a result of a deficiency state is nail quality. Three small trials have shown that biotin supplementation (2.5 mg/day for up to six months) in women with brittle fingernails leads to significant improvement. The study that used scanning electron microscopy to assess fingernail thickness and splitting found that after biotin supplementation, fingernail thickness increased by 25% and splitting decreased.
MSM: Sulfur Source and Antioxidant
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane or dimethylsulfone) is abundant in living organisms, with ~85% of sulfur provided by MSM and related compounds. Many of the benefits derived from onions, garlic and cruciferous vegetables (e.g., cabbage, broccoli) come from sulfur. Sulfur-bearing amino acids like methionine, cysteine and taurine are essential to normal metabolism, are building blocks for skin, cartilage, ligaments and tendons, and are carriers for redox minerals (e.g., zinc, selenium, iron).
MSM may work via several mechanisms. For example, fingernails from arthritis sufferers often show reduced cystine. This can lead to brittle, soft nails from either inadequate dietary sulfur or inability to assimilate it to match the body’s needs. When sulfur was given intravenously to 100 arthritis patients, many found relief from pain, and their fingernail cystine level returned to normal. MSM enhances the synthesis of chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid It provides nutrition for the skin and hair
Some supplements are suitable for both men and women of all ages as well as children. But other supplements are specifically targeted to the aging woman or man. Another supplement is especially suitable for athletes, regardless of gender.

What causes grey hair? Can it be prevented or treated?
One of the results of a lockdown during the current COVID-19 pandemic was that all hair parlours were closed down and those of us, why rely on their hair being dyed by professional hair stylists, were confronted with their grey hair again.
Which made me want to uncover the various reasons why people get grey hair (in my case it was mostly B12-deficiency and stress) and whether grey hair can be prevented and/or treated.
Hair gets its colour from a type of pigment called melanin. The formation of melanin begins in the fetus. Hair gets two types of pigments: the dark pigments are called eumelanin, and light pigments are called pheomelanin. These two types of melanin pigments blend together to form different types of hair colour. Again, these pigments are positioned properly in the hair follicles. So, when hair starts growing, these pigments are absorbed in the hair to give it a particular colour.
Hair colouration is a systematized process. So, if there is a slight difference in the bodily system, the hair loses its colour which is then called as grey hair. Over the decades, the researchers are working hard to find a real solution for grey hair. Unfortunately, there is no specific remedy yet come out that can provide the ultimate solution against grey hair. On the other hand, people must have a clear understanding on why they get grey hair. It will help them to find out the reasons specific to grey hair. Here are some of the causes of grey hair:
How to prevent or treat varicose veins with natural remedies?Sometimes it seems like varicose veins come out of nowhere when you’re least expecting it. Most people over the age of 60 have some degree, and usually they’re not a big deal. But they could be, it depends on the general health of your veins.
Valves in your veins are supposed to work harmoniously to move blood in one direction, to the heart!
If your heart is weak, or your valves stop working, or your veins lose collagen and become weakened, then the blood stays in your legs and feet longer than it should. It pools faster if you’re standing for a long time or if you’re sitting for a long time like during a long plane flight. The pressure inside your veins makes them wider and after a while, micro amounts of blood leak out into the surrounding tissue.
Varicose veins form, that is what you see when you look at your legs and see those twisted, distended big blue veins. It causes venous insufficiency. You are not the only one suffering: a large amount of especially elderly people and those who have to stand for a long time in their jobs, have varicose veins. They mostly impact the legs and feet.
Botox: what is it and is it dangerous?Nowadays, you often hear how people have used botox in order to get rid of unwanted wrinkles. Apparently, 3 out of 4 users are satisfied enough to recommend it to others. As a matter of fact, botox has become so popular, there are even so-called 'botox parties' in which the guests all receive injections while having a drink and bite.
Although botox was approved for medical use almost 30 years ago in 1989, it was only approved for cosmetic treatment 15 years later in 2002.
Botox became rapidly popular as a solution to sagging skin. So much so, that perhaps you too are considering to do it as well.
However it is a smart idea to get familiar with how botox works and what to expect in order to make a smart decision.
Why does skin wrinkle when we age?Normal healthy skin has a nice epidermis with a smooth outer layer that acts as a barrier to water and environmental injury. Skin colour and tone is even and unblemished. Components such as collagen that make the skin look firm and plump.
Elastin is what makes the skin elastic while glycosaminoglycans keep the skin hydrated. These three are all abundant when we are young.
So, what causes the skin to look wrinkled? That is a result of a combination of both intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging.
Silicon supplement rejuvenates skin, hair and nailsIt's not only gelatine and biotin that make your nails stronger. Studies show that silicon compounds do so too. Belgian researchers demonstrated the effect of orthosilicic acid in an experiment in which they gave women with an aging skin a mere 10 mg silicon daily.
