The Problem of AGEing
Benfotiamine is a natural form of thiamin (vitamin B1). Thiamin is an effective inhibitor of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). AGEs are produced by a detrimental chemical process in which proteins are damaged by sugar products. This damage results in deactivated enzymes, damaged DNA and unhealthy signaling in the body. Thiamin blocks the last and most important step of this process, when harmful sugar products are irreversibly converted into AGEs. Thiamin also activates an enzyme which helps the body shunt excess sugar products into a safer metabolic pathway.
