D3 Vegan - cholecalciferol 3000iu 100 softgels for vegans | Vitals
Vitals Vegan Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a vitamin D of plant origin, specifically from lichens. Strictly speaking, lichens are not plants, but symbionts of fungi and algae.
Vitamin D3 supports thyroid function, has a beneficial effect on skin health, and assists in pigment formation. Vitamin D3 helps in the production of bone tissue, hardens soft bones, and keeps organs healthy. In addition, this form of vitamin D(3) has a beneficial effect on the prostate.

background information
In the scientific community, the importance of a good vitamin D status has been known for a long time. Government agencies in Europe have also been recommending vitamin D supplements to certain target groups for quite some time. There is therefore a broad consensus regarding the necessity of vitamin D supplementation, especially in countries where the sun shines less frequently. After all, obtaining sufficient amounts of this important vitamin from your diet is a difficult task. However, determining the optimal vitamin D dosage remains a matter of individual assessment. This depends, among other things, on a person's age, physique, lifestyle, and the season. It also depends on a person's blood level, should this have been measured. That is why Vitals offers various vitamin D products in different dosages and forms of administration, so that we can offer everyone a suitable vitamin D supplement.
Vitals Vitamin D3 3000 IU contains 75 µg cholecalciferol from a plant source (algae). This is an extra high dosage that can be used for increased vitamin D requirements. The product consists of easy-to-swallow softgels made entirely from plant-based material. This makes it also suitable for vegans or people who prefer plant-based foods for other reasons.
Vitamin D is of great importance for our health
Knowledge regarding the role and importance of vitamin D in the human body has increased enormously in recent decades. Scientists have found vitamin D receptors in more than 30 different types of tissues and organs, including immune cells, muscles, and bones. This means that vitamin D has a broad scope of action and supports health in diverse ways. It is particularly well known that vitamin D is good for bones and teeth. Vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from food and for maintaining normal levels of both nutrients in the blood. These minerals, in turn, are needed for the mineralization of bones and teeth.
Furthermore, vitamin D is good for the muscles, because a vitamin D receptor is also found in muscle tissue. Its activation promotes the production of proteins in the muscles, which is important for their function. Vitamin D is also involved in the cell division process and the creation of new cells and tissues. In addition, vitamin D has an immunomodulatory effect, or a regulatory one, within the immune system. Vitamin D receptors are found on T-helper cells, a type of white blood cell that plays an important role in certain processes within the immune system. Thus, vitamin D is involved in the complex immune system in many ways.
Vitamin D can reduce the risk of falls in adults aged 60 and over
Research shows that from the age of 60, the importance of a good vitamin D status is even greater. Daily use of a vitamin D supplement containing at least 20 µg of vitamin D can help reduce the risk of falls in adults aged 60 and over. As we get older, our muscle strength declines and our posture becomes less stable. Scientists suspect that the role vitamin D plays in maintaining good muscle strength indirectly ensures that we are more stable on our feet and therefore less likely to fall. Falling is a risk factor for bone fractures in men and women aged 60 and over. On the other hand, ensuring a good vitamin D status, sufficient physical activity, and a healthy and varied diet are equally important for maintaining strong bones.
What is an optimal vitamin D level?
Many vitamin D experts believe that the optimal vitamin D level is higher than indicated in current guidelines. More recent scientific insights suggest that a calcidiol blood level of at least 80 nanomols per liter (nmol/l) would be better than the current target value of 30 nmol/l (or 50 nmol/l from age 70). In many cases, official dietary standards and supplementation recommendations for vitamin D are still geared towards achieving a blood level of 30 (or 50) nmol/l. It might be a good idea to have your vitamin D level determined so you can see where you stand. Nowadays, this is also possible with a simple self-test.
Vitamin D3 more effective than vitamin D2
The most common forms of vitamin D (calciferol) are vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Cholecalciferol is produced by the human skin under the influence of ultraviolet light, such as the sun (hence the nickname ‘sun vitamin’). These forms of vitamin D are converted in the liver into the metabolite calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D). Calcidiol is converted as needed in the kidneys and other cells and tissues into the biologically active hormone calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). In the field of supplementation, however, it is important to know that in most cases, vitamin D3 appears to be more effective than vitamin D2 in increasing calcidiol in the blood and ultimately calcitriol. That is why only vitamin D3 is used in Vitals vitamin D supplements.
